The Lothians / Midlothian region
From the atmospheric cobbled streets of the Old Town to the beautiful Georgian avenues of the New Town, Edinburgh is a city of contrasts blending shopping, historic attractions, gardens and plenty of restaurants and cafes where you can relax.
Step inside Edinburgh and the Lothians’ most magnificent historic houses and palaces and see the birthplace and the home of Mary Queen of Scots, the striking grand home of the Hope family at Hopetoun House and the home of one of Scotland’s oldest families.
The Edinburgh / Leith area
All the castles in Edinburgh and the Lothians have a different story to tell, whether it’s about the Stone of Destiny, the difficult life of Mary Queen of Scots or one of Scotland’s most powerful families, the Crichtons.
Plus a fantastic variety of productions staged in amazing theatres. Settle down in a comfy chair and enjoy work by big companies such as Scottish Opera and the National Theatre of Scotland or see leading amateur performances.
Fascinating museums as you would expect. See T-Rex at the National Museum of Scotland, Concorde at the National Museum of Flight and Steiff Bears at the world’s only dedicated Museum of Childhood.
Edinburgh has a collection of fantastic art galleries which feature fine and modern art, portraits and contemporary work. Look out for pieces by Raphael, Monet, Picasso and other great artists from the early Renaissance to the modern day.

Having discovered the Leith area on a previous visit to Edinburgh, we were keen to enjoy its competitively priced and well-connected facilities once more, so settled on The Moorings after finding it... more |

From the first to the last point of contact, Di could not do enough to accomodate me and my family. The location was great and the accomodation clean and roomy. Subtle little touches were to be found all through the accomodation; like games for the kids, DVD's, milk in the fridge and dishwasher tablets and cleaning products etc in the cupboards. All made for a very relaxing stay. Would not hesitate to recommend to others visiting the area. |

We stayed at this beautiful 3 bed apartment from 17th until the 20th Feb 2013. We were a group of 5 adults consisting of my wife and I, my youngest daughter, my eldest daughter and her partner. The apartment was wonderful, with a beautiful large entrance hall, 3 VERY good size bedrooms (they are all genuine doubles), two bathrooms, a very well fitted kitchen complete with integrated fridge, dishwasher & washing machine, and a very comfortable and accommodating lounge. The apartment is in a wonderful location to explore what Edinburgh has to offer, we were including a visit to the Zoo to see the Pandas, and the property was only a 20 min easy drive from the Zoo, located in the 'docklands' area of Leith which has undergone a massive redevelopment, the apartment is just across the road from the 'Ocean Terminal' shopping center which houses all the shops you could want and is also the access to the Royal Yacht Britannia, yet just a couple of mins walk along the beautifully retained cobbled street outside the converted warehouses rings you to the 'Shore' area of Leith, the waterfront area with an abundance of restaurants and bars, we had a wonderful meal at Giuliano's on the shore, live music on a Monday...!. Getting around couldn't be easier, if like us, you don't want to try and find parking in the city center, then just a short walk across the road (about 600mts) to the Ocean Terminal brings you the the Bus stands where many of the bus routes terminate (outside the shopping center), from here just about all buses go to the city center, about a 10 min ride, and a day ticket is quite cheap (£3.40 when we stayed) and allows you to jump on any bus. I cannot recommend this property highly enough, it provided all we hoped for and more, it was spotlessly clean, beautifully presented and equipped, and offered fantastic value for money, and I would deferentially recommend this apartment to anyone who want's to enjoy what Edinburgh has to offer. Response: Thank you so much for your lovely informative review. So glad you all had such a lovely stay and look forward to actually meeting you all next time! |
