The Lothians region
Edinburgh is located in the south east of Scotland. The weather is mostly temperate but is slightly unpredictable. The climate changes greatly with the seasons, as does the scenery, making The Boathouse a lovely place to stay at any time of year. As our famous comedian Billy Connolly says “there’s no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothing”.
There is so much to see and do. From taking history tours in the city centre, to cruising on the river, to walking on the Pentland Hills, there is always something new and unique to do.
The Boathouse is situated on the Dundas Castle estate. This is only 5 minutes from the historic and picturesque village of South Queensferry. From here there are spectacular views of the Forth Rail Bridge and Forth Road Bridge as well as lots of shops, restaurants and bars. The stately home, Hopetoun House, is only 15 minutes away and is open to the public for tours of the house. Port Edgar Marina is 10 minutes away and provides boat tours and opportunities to sail on the Firth of Forth.
Edinburgh city centre is only 25 minutes from the Boathouse in a car or taxi. Scotland’s capital city is known for its history and architecture. There are many tourist attractions and sight seeing tours to entertain, as well as Michelin-starred restaurants and lively bars. Edinburgh Castle is open to the public and is located on the Royal Mile. In the area there are many activities from whisky tasting to ghost tours and some fantastic places to dine from The Witchery to The Outsider Restaurant.
