This Grade A listed house located within the World Heritage Site on George Square is an excellent choice for our business clients who want just that little bit more from their accommodation, such as parking and reliable wifi. Families and groups can enjoy both city centre living and the lovely south west facing garden – a rare luxury among city centre Edinburgh lets!

Spread over 3 floors, the accommodation comprises a Spectacular double height drawing room with helical staircase to gallery. 3 double bedrooms, 2 with en-suite shower rooms, family bathroom with separate shower and bath; Garden room with original vaulted ceiling, wood burning stove, dining area and door to patio area and garden, fully fitted kitchen with door to basement area. Additional toilet on garden floor. There is a double sofabed in the garden room.

The house has a fascinating history. It was built in 1776 on a 'gap' site in George Square by Thomas Lockhart, the King's Commissioner in Scotland and one of the leading Edinburgh socialites of his day. Originally an extension of the house at No 23, it has been a separate property for 180 years. In its time it has been a fashionable drawing room during the Scottish Enlightenment, a house and a church, latterly the Orthodox chaplaincy. Conan Doyle lived next door at 23, the boyhood home of Sir Walter Scott was No. 25 and Thomas Carlyle courted Jane Welsh at No. 22. 23A was extensively renovated in 2004 with the guidance of Historic Scotland to provide a unique blend of the new and the old in the centre of this historic square.

Very conveniently located adjacent to the Meadows, the new Quartermile development and Edinburgh University. Within very easy walking distance of the Royal Mile, Princes Street and tourist attractions such as the National Museum, Greyfriars Bobby and the National Gallery.

The Edinburgh region

Scotland has so much to offer, from culture, history to the friendly people, it makes for a great holiday destination.

Edinburgh is a wonderful city to visit. It is truly beautiful and as Scotland's capital, there are lots to see and do. In August 2009, Edinburgh topped a poll of 'British Cities to see before you die' confirming its status as the ultimate British tourist destination.

From the historic cobbled streets, wynds and courtyards of the medieval old town to the elegant Georgian New town, Edinburgh is not only beautiful but also steeped in history - making it a top destination. Wonder the streets by foot to soak up the atmosphere or take a guided tour and learn more about the fascinating history of Scotland’s capital.

Edinburgh's weather can be unpredictable and during the summer it is advisable to bring a waterproof jacket. However it can be reasonably warm - up to about 24 degrees so pack that T-shirt too!

"Incredible house in a flawless location"

Stayed for a weekend with friends to celebrate a 30th birthday. Couldn't imagine a better place for it. I've been to Edinburgh a fair few times before and I know the city pretty well - if you are … More
