Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland. Located in the south-east of Scotland, Edinburgh lies on the east coast of the Central Belt, along the Firth of Forth, near the North Sea. Owing to its spectacular, rugged setting and vast collection of Medieval and Georgian architecture, including numerous stone tenements, it is often considered one of the most picturesque cities in Europe.
Edinburgh is the seat of the Scottish Parliament. The city was one of the major centres of the Enlightenment, led by the University of Edinburgh, earning it the nickname Athens of the North. The Old Town and New Town districts of Edinburgh were listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995. There are over 4,500 listed buildings within the city.
Edinburgh is well-known for the annual Edinburgh Festival, a collection of official and independent festivals held annually over about four weeks from early August. The most famous of these events are the Edinburgh Fringe (the largest performing arts festival in the world), the Edinburgh International Festival, the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, and the Edinburgh International Book Festival. Other events include the Hogmanay street party (31 December), Burns Night (25 January) and the Beltane Fire Festival (30 April). There is also the Edinburgh Marathon in May and the Moonwalk in June for the more active visitors.
Another annual event not to be missed, from the end of November until the beginning of January, Edinburgh hosts a lively Christmas Market, as well as an open air ice rink in Princes Street Gardens, there is a great buzz in the City, lots of shopping, Pantomine and Christmas Shows, all this festivity culminates with Hogmany Celebrations second to none, live music at The Castle, thousands of people at the Street Party, certainly something to experience at least once if you can.
The city attracts 1 million overseas visitors a year. In a 2009 YouGov poll, Edinburgh was voted the "most desirable city in which to live in the UK". Edinburgh was also rated The Best Place to Live in Channel 4's 2007 4Homes survey.

“Spotlessly clean with everything you need for your stay.”
Edele was very helpful, the location is quiet yet it's only a 15 min walk into town. Good value for the price, only downside was the lack of hot water by the 5th showers but it wasn't a major issue and the apartment is really good value for the price.
Response: Thank you for your kind comments. Since your visit, another guest mentioned the hot water issue to me, so I had a plumber fix the problem immediately (the water pressure needed to be adjusted). The apartment has a combi boiler therefore there should be constant hot water regardless of how many showers guests have, it is now working properly again. I am very sorry all was not as it should have been for your stay. Kind regards Edele.

“Spacious apartment with all mod cons for a relaxed stay in Edinburgh.”
Clean, spacious, warm and nicely decorated flat in a quiet residential area. We really enjoyed our stay at this Hopetoun St Apt! Just needed to figure out how to pronounce Hopetoun.
Great apartment in a fabulous location - close to shops, restaurants, theatre etc. Adele (owner) couldn't have been more accommodating. We (a family of five - 3 teenagers) lived very comfortably in the apartment for almost 3 weeks over the Christams period. There was plenty room to accomodate the 12 people we had (in total) for Christmas dinner. When we come back, this will definitely be our first choice for accommodation.

“Very comfortable, well heated and central.”
Stayed for a week in May. The weather was very cold with daily temperatures ranging from 7 to 11 degreesC. Coming from Darwin Australia it was a bit of a shock. We did manage to get around a bit mostly by taxi and saw all the big item things, the castle the museum etc. It was wonderful to come home to a beautiful centrally heated flat after our outings. Should we or our family ever visit Edinburgh again Murphy's Place would be the only place to stay. Many thanks Edele for meeting us when we arrived and letting us stay in your lovely apartment.

“Like being home”
This was the second time I stayed at Murphy's Place and the next time I need a place in Edinburgh I won't think twice to book it again. Spacious, clean, fully furnished, in a quiet neighbourhood yet pretty central. To top if off, Edele is always there if you need anything. Totally recommended.
We stayed at Murphy's Place to attend a family wedding and from the moment we arrived to meet Adele to be shown round we were delighted to find the apartment was everything we hoped for.Plenty of room for the five of us,exceptionally clean and well presented. An added bonus was the fact we were able to walk to Princess Street in about five to ten minutes.I will certainly be recommending Murphy's Place to any family and friends who intend visiting Edinburgh.

“A warm welcome to a beautiful apartment.”
This ground floor apartment had everything that we required. Edele was there to greet us and to show us around the well equipped and sparklingly clean apartment. It was ideally located for most of the major tourist attractions and delightful restaurants which we enjoyed sampling. We chose not to drive so we made good use of the taxis services and local buses recommended by Edele. I would highly recommend this apartment to all my friends - and we will definitely be back.
