Welcome to 6/2 Abercromby Place. It is situated on a beautiful yet quiet street in the heart of Edinburgh's prestigious and historic New Town. New? It was in 1807 when this apartment was constructed.

This is a family owned holiday flat. We lived in Edinburgh for many years, before work took us to Switzerland. We missed Edinburgh's life - the bars, restaurants, vibe and people - so much we took the plunge in Autumn 2013, and bought ourselves this wonderful flat. Over the next 18 months we plan to restore the flat in an open, modern style, and we've committed ourselves to returning to this wonderful city at least once a month.

We hope you enjoy this amazing city and stunning flat as much as we do.

Please note that the flat is in a residential area, and if you are planning on partying hard in the flat, this isn't the flat for you. Noisy hen and stag parties are therefore requested to book somewhere else.

Our 2014 pricing is complete and available on the pricing tab. We are yet to open our 2015 diary as availability will depend on the timing of granting planning permission, as detailed below. The minimum stay is 2 nights, although over festive periods these may be longer. These periods are also detailed on the pricing tab. Our availability calendar is always up to date, unless a pending booking is showing that falls through. If you email for a price quote, it will be exactly as stated on the website. If you are viewing this on a mobile device and can't see the pricing tab, at the bottom of this page, there should be a link to the full site - from that you can see the pricing tab. Before you ask for a price quote, please make sure you are happy with the layout of the beds detailed further down this description page, and note the bed that takes this flat from sleeping 10 to 12 is an inflatable bed...

In Edinburgh parlance, this is a double upper. It occupies the top 3 floors of a 5 storey mansion block - and it is massive. 3000 sqft (300 m2) of light, airy, high ceiling-ed, New Town wonderfulness. It is brilliantly located just 5 minutes walk away from Edinburgh's central shopping street, Princes St, and also the main Station - Waverley. And as the airport buses currently terminate at Waverley, it is great to fly into. In May 2014 the new tram service will start and the nearest stop to us will be just outside Harvey Nichols - a 2-3 minute walk from the flat. From there the trams will run to the airport every. 5-6 mins and take around 20-25 mins.

Downstairs in the apartment is the Hall, Kitchen, Living and Dining Rooms. The Hall is dominated by a sweeping staircase topped by a huge skylight. With beautiful original Caithness flagstones, it is certainly a grand entrance. The living room is a stunning space, overlooking the Georgian architecture opposite. It will have a wood burning stove in its grand John Adam fireplace, and it has armchairs, sofas and a 50 inch plasma screen with full cable and wireless internet. The sofas and other furnishings in the flat are from the French designer Ligne Roset and the Italian Kartell company.

The dining room already has a cool Scandinavian wood burning stove and a massive dining table with chairs for 12. To give an idea of scale, the table that seats 12 takes less than a third of the space in the dining room. And the living room is substantially bigger than the dining room. The Kitchen? Well, that's work in progress. It is fully functional with a big American fridge, electric oven with 6 gas burners, Belfast sink, plus washing machine and dishwasher. It's clean, but it isn't pretty. Yet. Come Xmas 2014 we expect to have a super-cool new kitchen installed. Planners and listed building consent notwithstanding....

On the middle floor there are 3 large bedrooms. One has a superking double bed, one a king double bed, and one has a zip link mattress that can either be 2 single beds or a superking double. There's also 3 toilets, 2 showers and a bath with an amazing view. Same applies to bathrooms as was written about the kitchen. Our bed linen and towels are Egyptian cotton, and are the same lines as used in the 5* London hotels The Lanesborough and The Goring.

Up the stairs again, and there is a loft room with 2 king size double beds and amazing views over the Fife coast and bridges. We have great plans for this room involving lots of glass - clean and comfortable, yes, but it won't be great for a year or so.

There is also an inflatable double bed that can be made up and put in the room of your choice.

Tech-wise the flat is fully up to speed, with super fast wireless internet, a virgin media TIVO box linked to a top of the range 50 inch Pioneer plasma TV and smart TV hub with things like Netflix. For your music we have a Libratone Lounge (search it!) equipped with airplay (apple) and DLNA (android) so any music on your device can be streamed directly through it.

For golfers, leave your sticks at home - we have 2 full sets of really nice Ping golf clubs in the flat that you're welcome to use. Either head to Bruntsfield links in the meadows where there is a free pitch and putt, or head to one of the 7 municipal courses run in Edinburgh. I'd recommend Braid Links - over 100 years old, laid by the great James Braid, high up in yellow gorse hills with amazing views over the city, the firth and the bridges, and Arthur's Seat. And it is run by the council! Book first, then hop on the No. 16 bus from a stop 2 mins walk from the flat. Obviously there are also many amazing private courses if you're lucky enough to get an invite, and St Andrews, with the possibility of playing the Old Course, isn't too far away.
