The Cumbria/Lake District
South Lakes and South East Cumbria have the best of both worlds – quiet, beautiful open countryside yet within easy reach of the Lake District’s ‘Hot Spots’. To the south east is the renowned Yorkshire Dales National Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty and again within easy reach from this part of Cumbria.
Throughout this area you will find many places of interest including the large market town of Kendal. The town’s old cobbled lanes branch off an attractive main street, with a good selection of shops and restaurants; there are also many historic buildings, galleries and museums to explore.
Eden Valley / Bretherdale area
Kirkby Lonsdale is in Cumbria’s south east in between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales; an historic market town in an area of great natural beauty with riverside and country walks.
Further north lays Kirkby Stephen at the head of the Eden Valley, a popular centre for walkers and situated on the Cumbria Cycle Way.
The ancient and picturesque village of Cartmel in the Cartmel Peninsula is easily accessible, with its winding streets, pretty cottages, whitewashed houses and medieval buildings leading to the village square. It is also home to Britain’s smallest National Hunt racecourse.
Lakes Ullswater and Windermere are within 20 miles away, and their is unlimited Fell walking directly from the back door.
How to get there
