About this location
The Nord-Pas-de-Calais region
The sea is omnipresent in this beautiful often overlooked region of France called the Cote d'Opale or Opal Coast. Impressive cliffs, mile upon mile of clean sandy beaches, ancient fishing villages and dunes, hills and forests abound in the local area. The fortress city of Boulogne is just 10 minutes drive away with its ancient walls, fishing port, acquarium and lively shops and markets.
A bit further way lie the seaside resorts of Hardelot, Le Touquet and Wissant. Whether it is enamel pottery at Desvres or glass crystal from Arques, lace from Calais or locally brewed beer from Tardinghem, the area is rich with local wares and produce not least fresh fish and mussels. The area abounds with excellent fish and seafood restaurants at a fraction of the price one would pay in the UK.! World War 2 museums and sites are also very prevalent including the sites where the V2 and V3 rockets were built and stored, impressive WW2 cemeteries and museums. Calais is half an hour's drive away and Bruges at one hour and a half is an easy day trip.
Walking, cycling and swimming can be combined with visits to historic towns and WW2 sites. The reserve of Cap Blanc Nez and Cap Griz Nez is 20 minutes drive away. Further south there is a famous bird sanctuary near the Bay of the Somme called La Marquentenaire. The house is 2 minutes drive from the dunes and forest of Ecault next to another forest near to Hardelot.

"Lovely house in a beautiful area"
Conveniently situated in a village within easy reach of Calais, Supermarket within walking distance and bigger ones a short drive away. Perfect spot to explore the Opal Coast. Modern, well furnished house with very well equipped kitchen, easily accommodating 6 adults. Phillip is very efficient and easy to deal, sending detailed information before the trip and responding immediately to emails and texts. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property and this lovely area of France.

"A home from home in a beautiful easy- to- get- to part of France"
This is the second time we have stayed at Ecault. This modern semi-detached house has good sized accommodation with more than enough room for our family of 4 . Nice quiet spot in a small village, walking distance to a friendly well-stocked supermarket and only 10 mins drive to some lovely beaches and towns. Paradis !!!

"A Jewel in the Opal Coast"
We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this holiday property. It was clean, spacious and comfortable, perfect for a Granny, Grandpa, Son, Daughter-in-law and grandson. The kitchen was a joy, large with every possible utensil, china, cuterly, and voila a full size fridge/freezer to save us visiting the supermarket frequently! It seemed everything possible had been thought of to provide us with a trouble-free and easy holiday home complete with separate utility area and a downstairs toilet.. The owner had left CDs, DVDs, cleaning utensils, dishwasher tablets etc etc and we appreciated the bits and bobs left in the larder too.We tried to think of something the owner hadn't provided but we struggled to find anything which could be improved upon. We found the advice, help and location details supplied by the owner of immeasurable help together with the loads of information left at the house to help us find our way around. He was extremely helpful and we knew we could telephone him if we experienced any difficulties.
We loved the Opal Coast - the many beaches were clean, wide and safe and we thoroughly enjoyed exploring the area.and walking in the nearby woods several times. The castle at Hardelot was a great hit, the frogs were extremely vociferous and mating and we made several trips enjoying the grounds as much as the castle and watching the wildlife.
It was unfortunate that the weather was a bit unkind to us, so we were even more grateful for the heating during the evenings.
We have made plans to revisit Ecault as we loved the area and found the house in a perfect position to explore the surrounding areas easily without losing the sense of knowing you were in 'real' France away from the crowds.
A really brilliant holiday. Thank you.
