The Hampshire region
Hampshire is the top destination in the UK for sailing, yachting and windsurfing as well as playing host to Cowes Week and the Southampton International Boat Show and this year, the World Laser Dinghy Championships will be held at Hayling Island Sailing Club - 5 minutes walk form the house.
If you're looking for a relaxing holiday with fine food, historic houses and fascinating museums, visit Hampshire for top attractions. For energetic kids and fun loving families there are nature trails, sports activities, wildlife parks, theme parks, interactive museums and much more. If you like walking, cycling, horse riding or water sports there's plenty to keep you amused, while for shopping, food and drink, military heritage and award-winning attractions, Hampshire tops the lot.
The country parks, nature reserves and open spaces of Hampshire's Solent coastline provide a welcome retreat for walkers and nature lovers, but there's also plenty to see and do.
Historic Hurst Castle, behind Keyhaven River, has dramatic views over the Solent and is an ideal place for picnics and walks.
Imposing Fort Nelson, with its massive guns overlooking Portsmouth Harbour, and Portchester Castle, with its well-preserved walls, offer a fascinating insight into the nation's military heritage and can be combined with coastal trips.
Chichester Harbour, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, has many unspoilt villages, beaches and inlets and is popular with walkers and birdwatchers is right on your doorstep here.
Hayling Island is only a small island, but it has much to offer to resident or visitor alike.
Hayling's combination of rural and marine environments has left us a legacy of unique natural history and a bio-diversity with walking distances of anywhere on the Island.
Hayling Island also has over 3 miles of beaches right on the doorstep of the Solent as well as the Harbours of Langstone and Chichester. With its safe open spaces, fresh air and sheltered waters, Hayling Island has much to offer those that enjoy sports of all kinds, whether on land or at sea.

"Stunning views and good accommodation"
We were very impressed with the view from the upstairs living room and balcony. My three teenage children were particularly taken with the roof facilities and view, which would have been amazing if the weather had been better. We really enjoyed our time at Whitecaps - the location was good, being only a short walk to the beach, and Hayling Island itself was wonderful to explore. It was also ideally located for visiting Portsmouth and Arundel, both of which had much to offer. The accommodation itself met all our requirements and the owner was particularly helpful. We would certainly stay again if we were visiting that area in the future!

"Lovely holiday home in a great location"
My partner and I stayed here for an extended stay while we were working in the area and had a wonderful time. We found the house to be very cozy and welcoming, and greatly appreciated a small gift from the owners when we arrived after a very long flight. The upper floor is the highlight of the house, although had we stayed in the summer, the roof deck would have won out. The views from these two floors are stunning and you feel as though you are completely away from the hustle and bustle of work life. The kitchen is quite well equipped, although needs some updating in terms of the cooking utensils, but we found it more than adequate for our needs. There are a few shops within close walking distance, and Tesco express/Sainsbury's local are approximately 30 min walk away. The beach is only a short few minutes away as well, with a quick walk down to a few pubs along the seafront. Overall, a really lovely house and perfect for short or longer breaks.

A lovely clean house, well equipped kitchen. Close to beach with great views from the balcony and roof terrace over the nature reserve. Wi Fi included which for us was great. A quiet part of Hayling. . The owner was very prompt with communication and is most obliging. We loved it and would like to return someday.

"Gem on the south coast!"
We loved this house. Location is ideal, very close to the beach and within easy reach of many places to visit. Inside is fantastic, it has been refurbished to a very high standard and is extremely comfortable and well equipped, home from home. We also made full use of the outside space and enjoyed the lovely views. We definitely want to go back, alas our holiday was too short!

"Great time at Whitecaps. Would definitely recommend."
We stayed last weekend in June. House is great and ideal for a relaxing break. Close to the beach and backs on to nature reserve so wonderful views. Balcony and roof terrace are great spaces as is the living area. Only criticism is the TV is very small. Great for dogs with great walks along the sea front. Would definitely recommend a stay at Whitecaps and the owner was very helpful and efficient.

We are a family with 3 young children and one dog. We stayed in the property while one of our sons did a sailing course at HISC during June half term. The propertly is perfectly located to access the club. It is very well equiped and confortable. Despite the bad weather we had a fantastic time with lots of bike rides and walks to the beach front. We will be back!

"Superb location with all the facilities"
Whitecaps is a well designed detached house located on an eclusive estate. The rooms are excellent, especially the kithen/diner/lounge area with verandah and rooftop areas that overlook a beautiful nature reserve. The sight of cattle, deer, foxes and passing boats is quite superb. The house offers all amenities, with the exception of a washing machine, which might be missed if staying for a fortnight or longer. Hayling Island is small and quite, with excellent walking We were pleased to be able to take 3 dogs at no extra charge, which was a pleasant bonus. Communication with the owner was excellent - and we were made welcome with gifts of a cake, plus treats for the dogs! Overall, it is a place that encourages return visits.

"Fantastic Accommodation that does exactly what it says on the Advert!!"
We booked the cottage because it had accommodation to sleep 6 without compromise. The reason for the early break was my sons wedding on the island and travelling from Scotland we wanted to make a holiday, rather than just a rush down and home again. The location was perfect for our needs, and the nature reserve to the rear of the property was a bonus. Whilst in the cottage we saw, Dear, Foxes, Green Woodpeckers and of course the Highland cattle. Great to be able to open the Patio doors in the morning and sit and eat a relaxed breakfast looking over the reserve. We found the beds to very comfortable and inviting at the end of the day. Everything in the cottage made it feel like a Home from Home. We would recommend the cottage to anyone wanting a relaxing location away from the hustle bustle of towns. Thank you Laura, we hope to return sometime in the future, keep up the good work. Paul & Karen Green

"Lovely house with great views"
We have stayed in many houses on Hayling Island, we have even stayed in other houses in the same private estate but this is by far the best. It is nothing flash and some of the furniture could do with updating in the bedrooms and the mattresses on the bunk beds were bit thin and could feel the springs but the fact is was clean and everything was supplied with regards to washing up liquid etc really took away the minor issues. The owner was extremely professional in her manor and was very helpful. We liked it so much we are going back and would and have already recommended it to a friend.
We have taken on board the comments made about the bunk bed mattresses - this was the first time someone had mentioned it. Both the bunk beds now have deep memory foam mattress toppers on them - the same guests who wrote this review came back again recently and I asked for feedback on the beds - they told me the children reported them as very comfortable - so everybody can now be assured of a good nights sleep!
