Enquire nowThe South East England / Sussex region
The South East of England is generally considered to be the driest part of the UK and Eastbourne has the enviable record of the highest number of hours of sunshine of any coastal resort in the UK.
All around the area there are places of interest. The main feature of Sussex-by-the-Sea are the South Downs stretching from the Winchester/Petersfield area right across to Eastbourne.
Of course there are, therefore, many charming downland villages to visit within an hour's drive of the town.
Within a short distance of Eastbourne you have wonderful places to visit - Alfriston a historic smugglers downland village with its charming church(The Cathedral of the Downs) - Herstmonceux with its castle and former observatory - Pevensey where the Normans landed in 1066 - Beachy Head and many charming downland villages.
The Eastbourne / Sovereign Harbour South area
The town of Eastbourne itself is a typically Victorian seaside resort with an enviable record of hours of Sunshine. There are theatres, cinemas, shopping malls and restaurants. As well as this you have the famous carpet gardens which are a delight to the eye as well as the Victorian Bandstand which has live music played every evening in the Summer. Of particular interest is Wednesday evenings which is classical night where the 1812 overture is played to a spectacular fireworks display.
Sovereign Harbour South is a very special development of mainly waterside houses and apartments about 2 miles to the East. Of particular interest in the town´s tourist calendar is Tennis Week and Airbourne(a spectacular display of modern and vintage aircraft). There is also a very interesting Victorian Festival in the town every year.
