The South East England / Sussex region
The South East of England is generally considered to be the driest part of the UK and Eastbourne has the enviable record of the highest number of hours of sunshine of any coastal resort in the UK.
All around the area there are places of interest. The main feature of Sussex-by-the-Sea are the South Downs stretching from the Winchester/Petersfield area right across to Eastbourne.
Of course there are, therefore, many charming downland villages to visit within an hour's drive of the town.
Eastbourne / Sovereign Harbour South area
Sovereign Harbour South is a popular destination having been built in recent years. It sits about 2 to 3 miles from the centre of town and there is a very convenient walkway/cycleway all the way to the town centre.
About one mile away is the Sovereign Centre with two indoor swimming pools and a gym. There is much to do in the harbour itself such as walking, cycling and swimming - the beach is just a short walk away.
The Waterfront is very close with a selection of waterside restaurants, and speciality shops. Also very close is a large supermarket and other stores.
In Eastbourne itself you have many theatres and other entertainments. In the Summer band and choral music is played on the Victorian bandstand each evening. Wednesday evenings are particularly popular as it classical night ending with fireworks from the beach.
How to get there
Train to Eastbourne Station then Taxi to Madeira Way. By car via the A22 road towards Polegate then take the Polegate by pass and follow the signs to Eastbourne.
Head for The Sovereign Centre, turn left in Prince William Parade, then at the roundabout take the first left into Atlantic Drive. After half-a-mile turn right into Madeira Way.
