The Cornwall region
With some of the most beautiful coastline in the country, Cornwall is rightly famous as a holiday destination. Rolling hills dive into the clear blue sea, interspersed by sandy coves and quaint fishing harbours. Inland the moors give wilder scenery, never quite tamed by modern civilisation.
East Looe is a beautiful and ancient fishing port, just 30 minutes from Plymouth. As a holiday location it has everything for children - the harbour with fishing boats coming and going every day, a lovely safe sandy beach and rock pools to explore.
Facing south east, the village is sunnier than many places in Cornwall and enjoys a very mild winter too - daffodils frequently make their first appearance in January!
The heart of the village is a maze of narrow streets lined with many ancient cottages, some as much as 400 years old. Right next to Foam Cottage is the old Guildhall, dating back to the 14th century and the Old Fisherman's Arms opposite is also around 700 years old.
Over the river is West Looe, the quieter sister. walk over the seven arched bridge for a different view of the harbour or take the ferry. Walk out onto Hannafore Point for a view over to Looe island and th enext stage of the coast path round to Polperro about 5 miles away.
