Home description

This charming old village house is located in the heart of the Karst region in a small village Krajna vas, only a short drive away from busy Trieste (Italy) and Ljubljana (Slovenia). The house was built more then 150 years ago by a local farmer and restored by the current owners, who renovated every intimate detail.

The house has a typical karst house structure with an L shaped building and a garden in the middle. When entering through the main gate you find yourself in a hidden garden where you can find peace and tranquillity. The intimacy of this garden attracted many famous people who spent their vacations with the owners to enjoy the privacy. Many of them even left small signatures, which can be found throughout the house.

This beautiful house has kept its original structure and façade, but due to a demanding owner received new comfortable features like satellite TV, fully equipped kitchen and central heating. The garden has also a heated swimming pool that refreshes the guests during hot summers and keeps them worm on long winter days. This beautiful house is available for rent all year around.

The Primorska region

During your stay you can visit many excellent restaurants in the area. You can try local dishes at the restaurants Spacapan or Ukmar, go for a fish at the restaurant Sajna, or try a more trendy approach at the restaurant Ravbar. Guests can also try a culinary masterpiece course at the castle Zemono, where one meal can become a several-hours experience.

Although you will get a complementary bottle of wine upon arrival, you can always visit our neighbour's wine cellar -Vinska Klet Stoka- where you can taste and buy different types of excellent wines.

You can also visit many other wine cellars on the wine route where there are a lot of wines and food to be tasted.

Dutovlje area

Krajna vas has a perfect location in the middle of the karst region. Venice and Ljubljana are only 1 hour away and to Trieste with the famous castle Miramar there is only a 20 minute drive. The region is also perfect for cycling and discovering old villages on the way.

Štanjel, an old village and the cultural heart of Karst is only a short drive away. Štanjel also offers a rich cultural programme throughout the year. Our special events are listed below.

Many other attractions can also be found close at hand, like Postojna caves, one of the world’s most amazing caves that attract more than 50,000 people each year. For those who like golf there is a beautiful golfing area in the middle of the beautiful landscape only 20 minutes drive away from Krajna vas. During your golfing experience your children could visit the famous horse farm Lipica, where Lipizzaner found their home. Horses have performances every day and you can also try horseback ridding.

The Italian coast is ideal for a visit or for a swim in the worm Mediterranean Sea. You can also go to visit small Slovenian or Croatian coastal cities. For those who like mountains 1 hour and a half drive away is the Triglav National Park, which is the biggest park in Slovenia, with the highest Slovenian mountain Triglav (2856m) in the middle.

In the evening hours you can visit the new casino Perla, where our guests get special treatment on appointment.

Special events:
-10th August - 12th August: The feast with teran and pršut is held every year in a near by village Dutovlje. This is a three day celebration where you can enjoy local food and wine. Every year many concerts and other attractions are organized and it is one of the main events around.
-6th November – 11th November: “Martinovanje” - during this time we celebrate the “birth” of new wine and many events are organized that weekend.
-End of September - In September farmers pick the grapes and start the process of the wine-making. Our guests can join one of the local wine growers and enjoy this unique experience.
-October - November: In the fall many locals open their doors for eight days to offer food and drinks made on their farm. This is something special and unique; they only get the license to operate those eight days and you get the chance discover your own favourite wine maker. These farms are marked with signs “Osmica”, which means that besides wine, they offer lunch and dinner.

How to get there

Closest airports are Trieste-Ryanair (Italy), Ljubljana-Easyjet (Slovenia) and Venice (Italy). You can hire a car on the airport. Coming from Trieste is 30 minutes drive, from Ljubljana 1hour and Venice 1 hour and a half.
