On the door step there are miles of unspoilt walks with plenty of special places for you to visit including Beamish open air museum, numerous castles and the chance to enjoy shopping at the Metro Centre in Gateshead.
The village has two pubs which serve food and there is also a small general dealers in the village.( please note small local tours can be arranged with the property owner with prices starting from £45 for a maximum of four people).

The Durham dales comprise of one of England's best kept secrets. These windswept valleys with their rugged, beautiful landscapes and untouched countryside are a walker's paradise. A famous landmark Hadrian's Wall is one of the main attractions to visit in Northumberland. The coastal towns of Seahouses and Bamburgh are about 90kms travel but well worth a visit.

Situated on the outskirts of Weardale in County Durham with easy access to Durham Cathedral and Castle World Heritage Site, Beamish Museum, Weardale Museum and the lead mining museum at Killhope. Castles to visit within the region include Durham, Raby, Auckland Castle and Bowes Museum near Barnard Castle which is a bustling market town. Nature trails worth a visit include Durham's heritage coast, North Pennines, Upper Teesdale, Hamsterley Forest and Castle Eden Dene national nature reserve. If you like shopping the Metro Centre at Gateshead and Newcastle City Centre are within easy reach.
