Sustrans coast to coast cycle track runs right by in the woods to the rear and there are delightful walks from the door. Beamish Golf Club is a short walk away and the famous Tanfield Railway is 5 minutes by car. There is an equestrian centre 5 minutes by car and several places to arrange horse riding nearby. The surrounding villages are full of friendly country pubs some within walking distance. Only a 10 minute drive takes you to The Riverside International Cricket Ground; home of Durham Cricket team, and with the Metro Centre only 20 minutes and the coast around 30 minutes. Historic Durham City is 20 minutes drive. This is an ideal holiday location for exploring the whole of this unspoilt area. Shop ½ mile, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.

The County Durham region
With much to see and do this largely unspoilt region includes the delights of Durham, the Dales, the Wear and Derwent valleys. The Northumberland coast with its miles of golden sandy beaches are nearby. Also accessible is Keilder reservoir with its many attractions.
Durham city and Newcastle with its vibrant nightlife, shops and restaurants.
Perfectly situated for the Scottish borders.
Sporting venues include Durham international Cricket Club. Newcastle and Sunderland Premier Football clubs and Newcastle Falcons Rugby club . For horse racing enthusiasts there are several top class courses: Newcastle 32km. Sedgefield 36km and Hexham 50km. Indoor carpet bowls at Stanley Bowling Club 5km. Ice Hockey Newcastle arena 22km.
Music venues include Newcastle Arena and the City Hall. The Sage Gateshead. Chester Le Street Riverside. Gibside Hall.
Theatre's include the fantastic Theatre Royal in Newcastle, The Live Theatre Newcastle, The Gala Theatre in Durham and The Sunderland Empire. Famous west end shows and ballet companies frequent Newcastle and Sunderland.
Ideally located. The Beamish Valley is a beautiful area with a picturesque setting, woodland walks, the Sustrans Coast to Coast cycle path and the Tanfield Steam Engine Railway.
Beamish has easy access to the north east coast and the A1 which will take you to many unspoilt sandy beaches where enjoyable days can be spent at the Heritage Coast exploring the many historic castles at Bamburgh, Warkworth, Lindisfarne and Alnwick where Harry Potter was filmed. Lindisfarne the home of Christianity where St Cutherbert spent many years merits a full day with its ancient historic sites, while the World Heritage site of Durham city is 20 minutes drive with its historical cathedral and river walks and continues St Cutherberts journey to his shrine.
For cricket fans, Durham International Cricket Club at the Riverside Chester Le Street is also just a short drive many music events and concerts are held there. Chester Le Street was also on St Cuthberts journey.
Beamish boasts many country inns, coffee and farm shops some within walking distance. It has a beautiful golf course 5 minutes drive away. Also a 5 minutes drive is a municipal golf course with two driving ranges nearby. There is also an equestrian centre 5 minutes by car and several places to arrange horse riding nearby.
The world famous Beamish Museum is a short walk, telling the story of the people of the North East England during Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian periods and soon to feature a 1950s town. The open air museum features a living town with shops, bank and houses and also includes: a park, an Edwardian railway station, a 1940s farm, the colliery and waggon way, a pit village, school, working farm and much more. Purchase you ticket jump on the tram and enjoy the day, your ticket also allows you to revisit as many times as you wish in a full year !
Beamish Hall with its links to Bobby Shafto and the Grey Lady has fantastic grounds and features a charming pub in the old stable block aptly named The Stables. It also has a micro brewery that you can visit and enjoy one of the many real ales or take some home. If you are very energetic Get Fit North East holds early morning boot camps within the grounds and various classes throughout the day and evening or have a personal trainer from the company come to your holiday home. Bannatynes gym at Chester Le Street with its numerous facilities including swimming pool, sauna and steam room welcomes visitors.
For Arts and Culture Newcastle and Durham are both within 20 minutes drive featuring many museum's, theatres, shops and restaurants. also the famous Sage music and conference venue, the Baltic centre for contemporary arts and the centre for life also in Newcastle.
For shoppers the Metro Centre - one of the largest shopping centres in Europe is a 10 minute drive.
Shop/Post office 0.5 miles. Several supermarket's a short drive.
