The Northern England / Yorkshire / Northumberland region

County Durham

County Durham is a county in north-east England. Durham being the main town. It is a county of contrasts: the remote and sparsely populated dales and moors of the Pennines characterise the interior where farming, lead mining and quarying have left their heratige, while nearer the coast the county has a wealth of industrial heratige

The form of the county name is unique in England. Many counties are named after their principal town, and the expected form here would be Durhamshire. The reason it is called County Durham instead is that the Bishops of Durham historically exercised power in regions outside the county as well, so the inner part was named County Durham as opposed to the rest of the estate of Durham.

Durham County Council promotes the county for tourism purposes as "The Land of the Prince Bishops" in reference to the former palatine jurisdiction of the bishops

Guestbook for Bunny Cottage

We have had a lovely fortnight staying in Bunny Cottage. We came for a special occasion, a naming ceremony for our new granddaughter who lives in Egglestone. Friends and relatives who visited us here were as appreciative as we are. This beautifully equipmed cottage is one of the best we have ever stayed in and we have really enjoyed the benefits of wood and coal fires in August. Many Thanks Mr & Mrs Lovatt - West Somerset.

This is our first visit to Teesdale, and we've been very impressed both with the scenery and the cottage. For the first 2 days we thought we'd never see the sun again and tramping 10 miles over the moors facing the wind is an experience we won't be repeating, however Durham. walking, the waterfalls and Beamish were all everything we expected, lack of litter and take aways and so few cars on the road have made our week so very enjoyable. Thank you for your customer care Karen and Anthony - we can't imagine how it could be bettered. Lynne and Paul Godden - Bedford.

On our 1st Wedding Anniversary we thought of going somewhere special to celibrate it and we found it here in this lovely cottage. The surrounding areas also are beautiful and so quiet. Once again thank you for our surprise which was awaiting us when we arrived here, it was very much appreciated. It was lovely coming away and having all the facilities you need and comforts you need and comforts of your own home, hopefully we'll be back again love Anna and Jamie Strickland - Nottingham.

Our return visit to Bunny Cottage has been as lovely as our first back in April. Alice has had lots of fun splashing in puddles and collecting leaves. Middleton appears even more beautiful as the leaves are now turning. We've enjoyed a lovely relaxing break and recharged our batteries in order to face school on Monday morning. Thankyou so much for letting us stay in your wounderful "Home from Home" cottage. Love Paul, Caroline, Alice and Bounty - Mansfield
