The Languedoc-Roussillon / Aude region
Villa Tamaris is situated close to the Village of Durban in the heart of the Corbieres hills.Visitors can immerse themselves in the ancient history of the area. Medieval castles like Chateau Queribus and Chateau Peyreprteuse sit high on mountaineous outcrops commanding the area around them. The beautiful walled city of Carcassonne is a must to visit as are the monasteries at Lagrasse and Fontfroide. All this area is Cathar country and historians will find a wealth of history to savour and enjoy.
Durban Corbieres area
Villa Tamaris is a few minutes' walk from the lovely village of Durban with a supermarket, boulangerie, bank, pharmacy, restaurant, bar and cave co-operative. The local wines are a must to try and are of exceptional quality and value.
Nearby Narbonne and Beziers have a stunning array of shops and services with a magnificent fresh food market and Cathederal in Narbonne.Just 15 - 20 minutes away is the lovely town of Sigean with its highly rated African Reserve a must visit for all those nature lovers.
The nearest Beach Resorts of Le Franqui and Leucate are a mere 20-30 minutes by car with beaches that stretch for miles and safe swimming in the clear Mediterranean waters. Wind surfing and other maritime pursuits are also available. You will also find lovely restaurants along the promenades with fantastic Sea Food dishes. Visible from the beaches of Leucate are the magnificent Pyrenees mountains. Villa Tamaris is an ideal base for Skiing and Winter Sports enthusiasts, who wish to travel to the numerous Pyrenees Skiing resorts and the famous Principality of Andorra.
