"Red Shutters"
About the home
The house is in the heart of a charming unspoilt village, just 30 mins from the beautiful Mediterranean coast. The house is stone-built, up to 600 years old in part, and has original beams everywhere .
It is very private, and has a secluded roof terrace, which looks out onto the hills behind, ideal for sunbathing (not overlooked) or dining beneath the stars.
Just a two minute walk to the small village shop, and the baker calls every morning. There is a much larger supermarket and restaurants five miles to the south in Durban and the city of Narbonne is 25 minutes to the north.

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Aude region

The Languedoc-Roussillon region is one of the sunniest in France, with sunshine on average 320 days a year.
Its 150 miles of Mediterannean coastline boast miles of sandy beaches, running down to the Spanish border.
As well as the major towns, all of which are full of character, there is plenty of wild countryside, and unspoilt coastline
.
There is a wealth of things to do in this diverse region, including spectacular Cathar Castles (such as Peyreperteuse,) vineyards, cycling, fishing, hiking, beaches, food and wine, shopping or simply relaxing in a very French country village.
The Durban Corbieres / Villeseque-des-Corbieres area
Beaches: The closest beach is the very popular Leucate (28km). Other excellent quiet beaches are to be found at Gruissan, Plage du Narbonne, Leucate, and Collioure some of which are naturist.
Perched high on a rocky outcrop is the magnificent medieval town of Carcassonne, the largest walled city in Europe. Excellent market on Saturdays.
Durban boasts its own castle perched high above the town, and there is an open air swimming pool and tennis courts.
Chateau Lastours - Durban. Vigneron and fine restaurant open all year round
Perpignan - Excellent shopping and restaurants, and a strong Catalan feel - with Gypsy neighborhoods and a fascinating flea market.
Lagrasse a- fabulous village with restaurants and Benedictine monastery – the “most beautiful village in France”.
Collioure, a picturesque port village 15 mile from Spanish border.
Visit the stunning gorge of Galamus, home to the Hermitage of Saint Antoine - a relatively unknown yet spectacular day out.
Narbonne - there are plenty of spectacular sights in the historic quarter (Saint-Just cathedral, the Roman Horreum, Musee Archeologique etc). Also a huge open-air market on Thursdays, and a food market called Les Halles
The Canal Du Midi (Canal des Deux Mers) is still seen as a marvel of engineering despite the fact that it was built in the 17th Century. The canal involved the building of the first artificial reservoir for feeding a canal (700 metres long, 30 metres above the riverbed and 120 metres thick at its base), which was built entirely by women carrying baskets of soil.
