The Languedoc-Roussillon / Aude region

Villa Wisteria is situated in the warm, Mediterranean region of France, which boasts in excess of 300 days of sunshine a year. The location benefits from long, hot summers and brief, mild winters. It is nestled among vineyards and the picturesque Corbieres hills, with the medieval Durban castle in view.

The area is steeped in history, ranging from castles, the walled city of Carcassonne, monasteries, museums and not forgetting the magnificent Canal du Midi which can be accessed a short drive away. The thriving towns of Narbonne, Perpignan with it's vibrant mix of influences and Beziers are all within a 30 minute drive, beaches are plenty in the area, skiing in the Pyrenees is less than a 2 hour drive.

For the outdoor enthusiast there is golf, tennis, safari parks, water sports, sailing, swimming, cycling, hiking/hill walking, horse riding, fishing, gourmet dining, mountain biking, photography, shopping, sightseeing, wine tasting and wine touring.

The African Reserve at Sigean is one of the most highly rated wildlife parks in Europe and is a mere 20 minute drive from the villa.

For food and wine lovers, there is a wide selection of local markets and restaurants available. The increasingly popular Languedoc wine is a highlight for many visitors, and can be tasted at the many châteaux of the region.

Wine tasting is a popular hobby in this region.

Durban Corbieres area

The village of Durban-Corbieres is a mere 5 minute walk. It has a supermarket, restaurant, bar, bakery, newsagents (daily English newspapers available), pharmacy, bank (has outdoor atm), post office, garage, petrol pumps, car wash, Cave co-op (local winery), doctor's surgery, boutique, some houses along the way even sell local honey! An on-site pizza delivery comes to the village once a week, a travelling butcher on another afternoon.

During the summer, the locals regularly have outdoor barbeques and socials on the banks of the river that runs through Durban. These gatherings are open to all, the locals are welcoming of their English speaking visitors. A great way to join in the local culture!

How to get there

- Ryanair fly to Carcassonne from Stanstead, Liverpool, East Midlands, Dublin, Cork, Shannon & other European airports.
- Perpignan is serviced by Ryanair, FlyBe & BMIbaby.
- Beziers is serviced by Ryanair.
- Girona is an hour south of Perpiganan, as it is one of Ryanair's European hubs, it is accessible from many European cities.

Car hire available at all the region's airports, Hertz, Avis, Europcar, etc.

Airport transfers can be arranged.

The living room has fabulous wood beams running across the high ceiling, it is bright and spacious, with a log fire for cosy evenings in, relaxing to the surround sound system, whether it is from some of the dvd's/cd's on offer in our library or watching one of the many SKY satellite channels on the flat screen tv.

The villa has ceiling fans in all rooms - one of the few villas which offers this. There is an extra standing fan available also.
No need to store your luggage in your bedroom, we have a large internal garage that will accommodate all your luggage, bicycles, golf clubs, etc.
For the children, we have a cot, high chair and stroller. We have a see saw, rocker and there are plenty of sand toys, buckets and spades and a variety of pool inflatables also.

All the bedrooms are on one level, two of which look out onto the swimming pool and the master bedroom has sliding glass doors that lead out onto the sun trapped terrace, with table, chairs and parasol - perfect for relaxing in the lazy sunshine whilst taking in the scenic views.

If cooking is your thing, we have a built-in traditional stone barbecue with all the utensils you will need to cook up a feast or if you prefer to dine out why not treat yourself to the Michelin starred restaurant a short drive away from Villa Wisteria or one of the many restaurants in the locality.

The villa is detached, with a manicured lawn and terrace to the front , private pool and terrace at the back with a kid's play area, including a shaded sandbox, sand toys, a see-saw and pool inflatables.There is private parking at the villa, in a secure gated environment. Stone-cut barbecue, terraces to the front and the back garden, both terraces are equipped with a table, chairs and parasol for you to unwind and relax.

The pool is surrounded by a paved patio, slightly elevated above the garden, fenced on 3 sides and tree lined to the back. There are 4 quality, padded reclining sun loungers. It is totally private, not overlooked, but yet you will enjoy spectacular views of the the vineyards and Durban castle with the smell of lavender lingering in the fresh air around you.
It is an idyllic location for the perfect holiday in the heart of the Languedoc.

- 25% rental fee required to secure booking.
- Damage deposit Euro 300 required, will be returned within 1 week after departure (subject to satisfactory inspection).
- Balance due 6 weeks prior to arrival.
