'Launey' is a newly built 3 Bedroomed Gite with it's own private pool, large garden and terrace. Decorated to a high traditional french standard, it offers modern facilities to help you enjoy your holiday even more. There is a fully equipped kitchen, a spacious living room, dining area, 3 good sized bedrooms, a charming bathroom with shower and an outdoor terrasse. It is very much a 'get away from it all' holiday, but you are ideally located to go and explore the beautiful french countryside. Winetasting at nearby chateaux is a must, along with lovely country walks and discovering the history of nearby towns and villages. Or you can just simply stay by the pool all day, soaking up the sun and taking it easy!!

The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Lot et Garonne region

Our gite is set in a small pretty village called Taillecavat with it's own medieval church, boulangerie and neighbouring Chateau Virac. The views from Taillecavat are panoramic seeing Duras Chateau in the distance, along with the surrounding vineyards and tranquil countryside. Duras itself is a pretty bastide town which hosts various markets and Fetes throughout the Summer. One main event is the Wine Festival held in August, which is held over 2 days, along with a Hot Air Balloon display. There is also a Medieval Festival which is excellent and very entertaining. Taillecavat is an ideal location for those who want to explore the Lot-et-Garonne, Gironde and The Dordogne. There is horseriding available at Sauvetat du dropt (2km) away, Bicycle hire at very good rates (so no need to bring these with you!), Canoeing and Kayaking at nearby Alleman sur Dropt, Museums, Winetasting at many local chateaus, Medieval tours of Duras and other Bastide Towns. Swimming is available obviously at our pool, but there is a nearby lake with a small manmade beach if you want to feel you are at the seaside! Archachon and Biscarosse, our nearest Coastal beaches, are about 90 minutes away, and well worth a visit! The City of Bordeaux is about 70 minutes away in the car, or you can catch the train/tram into Bordeaux using a local station. Bordeaux is a fabulous city, with historic treasures and great shopping. Bergerac, again another beautiful town is 40 minutes drive away, set on the Dordogne and in the middle of Wine Country! The climate here is very warm in the summer with temperatures reaching 40° in June and July. Spring and Autumn tend to be a lot warmer and sunnier than the UK. Taillecavat is ideal for families, couples, or those who just want to 'get away from it all!

Duras area

Every week during the Summer there is a Fete on in one or two surrounding villages and everyone is given a warm welcome. These fetes can last well into the night, so be prepared to enjoy yourself with the locals!! Each Sunday during July and August, there is a village picnic held at nearby Soumensac. Along with weekly markets offering fresh produce, locally made gifts at Duras, Marmande, Miramont, Bergerac and Eymet, there are often Brocontes held in the villages too. Summer Night Markets each Tuesday held in Eymet, are worth visiting. The Duras Wine festival, The Medieval Festival and Bastide Day Celebrations are worth marking on your calendar!! Locally there is horse riding, cycling, fishing, tennis, tours of the Duras Chateau, river and country walks, great restaurants and good shopping. Also, there is 'Walibi' at Agen, which is a fantastic family theme park which is about 40 minutes away offering splash rides, roller coasters, wild west displays and sea park. Toulouse Space Centre (where a space shuttle is on display) is a 2 hour drive south but is an amazing place to visit for a day out with a difference.

How to get there

By Air: Flight times are usally 90 mins - 105 mins long

Local Airports are Bergerac (40 minutes car drive), Bordeaux (70 mins car drive) and Toulouse (90 minutes). Ryanair and Flybe fly into Bergerac and Toulouse from most UK airports. BMI baby, Easyjet, and British Airways fly into Bordeaux and Toulouse. Air Lingus fly into Bordeaux and Toulouse in the summer for those travelling from Ireland. Car hire is available from Budget at Bordeaux/Bergerac or Buggs car hire from Bergerac.

By car: Speed Ferrys from Dover to Bologne are usally the cheapest. Once in France, the journey should take you about 10-11hours travelling South. Other Ferrys include P&0, Stenner or of course the EuroTunnel. Portsmouth to Le Havre or St Malo is popular.

By Rail. Eurostar to Paris and then the TGV to Bordeaux. Trains then run from Bordeaux to Ste Foye le Grande (30 mins from Duras) or Marmande. There are also direct trains from Paris to Marmande (20 mins from Duras)

There are lovely views of the surrounding countryside from most of the rooms. All of the rooms are spacious and decorated to a high standard. The gite itself is 114 meter square which should make your 1 or 2 week stay seem very comfortable. Inside there is a dining table and chairs for entertaining, and a comfortable sofa and chairs for relaxing! The kitchen is newly installed and well equipped, along with the newly installed bathroom which is very clean and spacious.

Further details outdoors:
A private Swimming pool fitted with steps and an alarm, which has a depth of 90cm-175cm, making it ideal for children and adults alike. There is a gradual step which you can relax on, stay cool in the water, and soak up the sun! There is a private terrace where you dine or relax and a large garden where you can rest and play.

There is a Supermarket 4 km away. A doctor in the village; 3 banks in Duras, pharmacy, a regional market held every monday morning in Duras.

Further details

On arriving at the property, you will find it very clean and tidy. We hope that you will leave the property in the same way as you arrived. If you desire, we can arrange for a cleaner to tidy and clean the property after your departure, for a charge of 50 euros.
On booking, we would like a deposit of 30% within 10 days of reservation. 6 weeks before your holiday starts we expect the balance to be paid in full. This obviously protects us from holiday makers who may not turn up!! On your arrival, we would also ask you for a damages deposit of 150 euros. This will of course be given back to you in full, on vacation of the property and nothing has been damaged.

Conditions

30% of the balance within 10 days of the reservation.

NB: Prices may be subject to change at the owner's discretion.
50 euros will be requested if you do not wish to clean the property on vacation. 300 euros damages deposit is required, but this will be given back in full, on vacation of the property (as long as there is no breakages!).
