Farmhouse | 3 bedrooms | sleeps 6
Le Maubec is a beautifully restored ancient farm cottage which is over 200 years old. Sitting in open countryside yet just a short distance from the charming village of Allemans du Dropt. The cottage is rural, but not isolated. It is very well presented with two double bedrooms (one ensuite) and one twin bedroom. There is a lovely beamed lounge with dining area and a well equipped kitchen. The kitchen leads onto a south facing terrace with dining table, chairs and a bbq. Outside there is a beautiful 12X5m private pool with roman steps. The cottage stands in around 1 acre of level gardens with trees and lawns.
For the cooler months the property has full oli-fired central heating and a wood burner in the lounge. For those travelling by air there is a hairdryer, straightening irons and bed line and towels can be provided for a small laundry charge.
Le Maubec is well situated for visiting the many interesting and pretty towns and villages in the area, including the “bastide” towns of Duras with its magnificent castle/chateau and Eymet with its attractive square and remains of a fortified gateway, Soumensac with its beautiful old buildings and Knights Templar church, Allemans du Dropt with the outstanding frescoes in the church. Also Monteton, a hilltop village with a great view across the valley and La Sauvetat du Dropt with its fine church, old buildings and connections with the Templars of Soumensac. The bastide towns of Miramont de Guyenne, Monsegur, Castillones, Issigeac and Monpazier are a short drive away and well worth visiting.
A little further afield is the historic town of Bergerac – narrow streets and old buildings with several museums and galleries. The town is also an excellent venue for shopping, and hosts a wonderful firework display and food festival in July.
Canoes and Kayaks can be hired at nearby Allemans du Dropt for a trip up the river, and there are many rambling routes in the lovely surrounding countryside.
The cottage is within easy reach of Bergerac airport (around 30 minutes) with Bordeaux airport about 1.5 hours away.
