The barn is made from local stone and has been renovated to a high standard. To the left of the property is a large undercover terrace for shade during the hot summer days. To the rear is a dining area, garden and 10m x 5m swimming pool (chlorine) with Roman steps overlooking the fields where you can watch the sun set.

The Aquitaine region

Travel along the Dropt river from Eymet via La Sauvetat du Dropt, a small historic farming village with Roman bridge situated in Aquitaine, in the north west of the Lot & Garonne department, on the edges of the Dordogne and the Gironde in the valley of the river Dropt. It has around 500 inhabitants. It is mentioned during the pilgrimage of St Jacques de Compostelle. Visit the XII century church and it's fresco's further downstream in Allemans sur Dropt.

The 13th C bastide at Eymet, Dordogne. Bastides were fortified towns built by kings in areas where their rule was under threat. The towns were built in a grid system with arcaded square and fortified church. Eymet has some wonderful restaurants and markets. Look out for the medieval festivals in August.

Duras

The list of places to see and things to do are endless! Wine tasting is an obvious choice but there is something for every taste - whether it be the lac, just a short stroll down the road, visiting the 12th Century bastide towns and watching the world go by as you sample a croissant and a "grande creme", or explore the lovely landscape and take in the local nature. Enjoy the warm weather and the tranquillity or the hustle and bustle of the local farmers markets.

"Wonderful, secluded, well equipped, peaceful gite"

We had the pleasure of staying at Le Roc in July.

It exceeded our expectations. It was well equipped including toys for the garden and pool & washing machine. Apart from a fence around the pool, there is no boundary to the garden giving an enormous feeling of space. The Gite had everything we needed for a weeks stay. It was a great base for exploring the surrounding towns. I would not hesitate in recommending Le Roc.

"Perfect family holiday"

We stayed for 2 weeks at Le Roc, with our 6 year old daughter in June/July 2013. It was a fantastic holiday. The gite is located up a very quiet lane, surrounded by fields, though is only a short walk to the village for the boulangerie, restaurant and post office.

Le Roc was easy to find, surprisingly light and airy, with plenty of space. When we arrived it was immaculately clean, beds made up and 2 bottles of local wine for us from the owners. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we could have asked for, though we cooked outside on the barbecue nearly every night. The full sized fridge and freezer were very welcome as the temperature was into the 30s nearly every day with almost unbroken sunshine.

The swimming pool area was fantastic - good sized pool, comfy loungers, tables, 2 good sized parasols for shade, and pool play things supplied. The whole area was well fenced off with a secure gate, so we did not need to worry about our daughter getting into the pool area without us. We used the pool nearly every day as it is perfectly located to get the sun right through to the evening. Our daughter learnt to swim while we were there, so Le Roc will certainly stay in our memories.

The cottage has a good wifi connection for those that need it. Inside there were plenty of toys and books for our daughter, as well as a good library of books and games for adults as well.

When we first arrived the wifi was not working, but the owners (who live up the lane) came round and got it dealt with in a couple of days and there were no further problems.

We would thoroughly recommend Le Roc for a quiet and relaxing holiday and hope to be back again ourselves in a year or 2.
