The Costa del Sol/Malaga region
On the Mediterranean coast between Marbella and Gibraltar on the "New Golden Mile", with beaches to the fore and golf courses and mountains behind, and easily reached via either Malaga or Gibraltar airports.
A 10 minute drive east is the fishing town of Estepona famed for its promenade, sandy beaches and tapas. It has a popular market held every Wednesday morning on the marina.
Further along the coast is Puerto Banus, the playground for the rich and famous with its huge private yachts, trendy bars and designer shops.
Travelling 5km west from Duquesa, is Sotogrande a quiet upmarket marina. Close by is the Valderrama golf course where the 1997 Ryder Cup was held.
Beyond this is the Rock of Gibraltar, braving a hair-raising taxi ride to the top you will find spectacular views across to North Africa and Tarifa - the gateway to the Mediterranean. Duty free can be picked up in Gibraltar, as well as English shopping.
Heading inland and up into the hills you can discover the famous "white villages" of Casares, Mijas, Gaucin and the most famous of which is Ronda with its memorable bridge and architecture.
For the more adventurous culture vulture the historic town of Jerez is 140km and Seville a further 80km by road. Visit a different continent via a 90 minute boat trip from the port of Algeciras (near Gibraltar) to Tangier or Ceuta in Morocco. A perfect place for an African adventure and to pick up some ceramics.
Selwo National Park is 15km away. Based on an African safari park, it houses 2000 animals in semi-wild conditions. There is also a small but perfect waterpark in Algeciras, suitable for kids of all ages (very clean and good food).
Duquesa / Puerto de la Duquesa area
Los Granados de la Duquesa is in a privileged spot on the shores of the Mediterranean. It has everything you need to enjoy your leisure time, whether looking for activity or relaxation.
Nestled between two clean blue flag beaches complete with beach bars, the port of Duquesa seems like an oasis of calm far from the high rise apartments and crowds of other holiday areas.
The port boasts a wide choice of amenities including supermarket, bank, newsagent, DVD hire, gym and beauty salon. There is also a wide choice of restaurants catering for all tastes.
West of the port is the tiny fishing village of Castillo de la Duquesa, with its Roman remains and Spanish Castle. Its excellent restaurants regularly serve fresh locally caught seafood. In addition there is also a supermarket, bars (quiet!) and a games court.
