The Costa del Sol region

Puerto Duquesa is located in the municipality of Manilva, at the western end of the Costa del Sol in the province of Malaga, Spain.

Manilva is a traditional village located in the hills behind Puerto Duquesa, an area that has always been dedicated to fishing and wine production giving rise to the “mosto” wine which is famous in the region. Today Manilva and Puerto Duquesa has been transformed into one of the most beautiful touristic locations on the Costa del Sol without losing any of the traditional charm. It has modern facilities with an abundance of restaurants, hotels, sporting activities, shops as well as sweeping beaches and challenging golf courses.

A short walk from Puerto Duquesa we find the village of Sabinillas, which is also part of the municipality of Manilva. Here we can find all the services you require such as medical centres, travel agencies, supermarkets etc.

Within easy driving distance, we have the airports of Malaga (1 hour), Gibraltar (20 minutes) and Jerez (just over 1 hour). Manilva is located between Estepona (less than 10 miles) and Sotogrande (5 miles). Places of interest close by include: At night, Puerto Duquesa turns into a unique and special place to enjoy the evening.

There is a wide range of restaurants to suite all tastes, not forgetting of course the numerous bars & pubs. You can try a mouth-watering meal with the choice of Chinese, Indian, Italian, French, British, Irish and of couse Spanish cuisine (both in the Port itself as well as in the nearby villages of Sabinillas or Castillo which are within walking distance, and Manilva. This can be followed up with a visit to the numerous drinking establishments in Puerto Duquesa, whether your fancy is karaoke, viewing sporting events or a quiet chat in a pub.

The cosmopolitan atmosphere of Puerto Duquesa has made it a well known place for it´s mixture of different cultures and nationalities.

LOCAL HISTORY
Now a bit of history: Given it´s location on the edge of the Mediterranean, throughout history, Manilva has been the chosen place for a number of cultures. The first known inhabitants of the area we from the Paleolithic age, evidence of which can be found in the hills near Utrera.

The most extensive ruins that tell us about the diverse history of the area relate to the Roman era, among which the most noted example is known as “Castillo de la Duquesa” and the Roman villa of Sabinillas.

The Duquesa / Golf and Gardens Complex area

Located in a the new development of Duquesa Golf, near to the beautiful Marina at Duquesa and the small Spanish coastal town of Sabinillas. Once a week Sabinillas opens up it's fantastic market. A treat for everyone. Throughout the year the local area comes alive with it's famous festivals.
Kids love it ! Just a short drive away are the famous waterpark, safari, endless blue flag beaches, tennis and much more.

Some 8 minutes of the thriving and sought after seaside town of Estepona. Inland lies the picturesque hill village of Casares and golf courses abound. The local Golf courses include Duquesa Golf, Estepona Golf, Dona Julia, and just a 10 minute drive away is the famous course at Valderrama. A 10 minute walk to the beaches at Duquesa and the ancient Moorish Castle, 15 minutes to Sabinillas. In this popular town, you will find an abundance of bars, restaurants and shops.

Fashionable Puerto Banús and Marbella are 20 minutes drive. Malaga's exceptionally well served airport is about 50 minutes via the splendid Mediterranean motorway and Gibraltar about 20 minutes.
Other places of interest within easy striking distance include: Ronda, Benahavís, Mijas, and many of "the white villages". Within a couple of hours are the historic cities of Seville, Cadiz, Cordoba and Granada and the snow ski resort of the Sierra Nevada.

Andalucia cries out to be explored with its rolling countryside, olive and citrus groves, mountains and Europe´s most Southerly snow ski resort in the Sierra Nevada, less than 2 hours drive away. Add to this historic cities like Seville, Granada, Cordoba, Cadiz and so many more, plus the Mediterranean and Atlantic beaches and you will need to visit more than once!

Golfers are spoilt for choice - with some 60 courses to choose from. Other sports and recreational pursuits are equally well catered for - or just relax with a glass of Rioja, enjoy the climate all year round and watch the world stroll by.

Malaga airport is 45 mins drive. There are many low cost airlines into Malaga and car hire is abundant and cheap.

Gibralta airport is 25 mins drive, also with many low cost airlines and car hire.

Bus and trains operate regularly along the whole coast from Malaga to Gibraltar.
