The Costa del Sol region

There is so much to see and do on the Costa del Sol you really will be spoilt for choice! Our apartment is in the ideal location for a quiet relaxing holiday or for those of you who want to get 'out & about'. Here are a few suggestions to put on your 'to do' list!
Casares
Casares is a beautiful white washed Andalucian mountain village and is only 15 mins by car. Spend the day experiencing a traditional Spanish 'pueblo'. Park your car as you enter Casares and take one of the many footpaths that lead down into the village. Visit the Plaza de Espana, the Virgin Del Rosario chapel and if you are feeling very fit climb 1400 feet above sea level to the old fortress.
Ronda
Ronda is only an hour away by car and is one of the most distinctive and beautiful towns in Spain. Make a day of it by driving the winding, but breathtaking scenic route from Manilva, through Gaucin. Make a beeline for the 18th century Puente Neuvo bridge which straddles the 100m chasm below. The bullring is the oldest in Spain and with its underground museum is well worth a visit.
Gibraltar
Gibraltar is only 25 mins away, don't forget your passport to cross the border. You can take one of the famous 'Rock Tours' to meet the Barbary Apes, explore St Michael's Cave and the Great Siege Tunnels. If shopping is more you thing, then you can 'shop till you drop' in this truly different shopping experience!
The Duquesa / Duquesa Village area
Duquesa Village is only a 5 minute drive or a 20 minute walk away from the Blue Flag Beach at La Duquesa. This is a large sandy beach, perfect for families dotted with traditional Spanish Chiringuitos (or beach bars) serving beautiful fresh fish at good prices. From here you can take the promenade walk all the way to Sabinillas about a mile, to enjoy the views to Estepona and the rest of the New Golden Mile. En route there are lots of children's play areas, benches and bars for you to stop at to take the weight off for a bit!
Puerto de la Duquesa has a variety of great bars and restaurants, as well as boutique gift shops, internet cafe and a bakery. It still manages to retain some of its true Andalusian charm.
Manilva is a few kilometers inland from Puerto de la Duquesa and is well known for producing sweet wines. It holds a celebrated wine festival in September each year. In the autumn you can stop to buy grapes or raisins from the locals by the roadside. The town has a history dating back to Roman times and today you can still visit the Roman Sulphur Baths and Aqueduct.

The apartment was beautiful and had everything we could have needed; it was a real home from home. It was situated a 5min drive from the beach and local town which was perfect. The apartment felt very secure with a security guard 24/7 at the main entrance. There was also secure underground parking. The swimming pools were immaculate and the baby splash pool was perfect for our 2 year old daughter. I would definitely recommend this apartment to others. Response: I am so pleased you had a great holiday, also that you felt safe in our apartment & around the rest of Duquesa Village. It can be stressful travelling with a young child, so I'm glad you found everything 'child friendly' and clean. Something less for you to have to worry about! I hope we can welcome you back to our apartment again soon. |

Firstly the owners are extremely helpful with everything, whatever your query they're bound to have the answer. The apartment had everything you could possibly need, on a practical level (dishwasher tablets, washing powders etc) and also DVD's, magazines, Inflatables and tons of local information. As far as we're concerned you'd need a car for the location, in the summer heat it was much too far to walk up and down to the port, it's a fair distance, especially with children. Taxi's aren't very expensive though so you could walk down of an evening and get a taxi back for not very much. If we hadn't had a car that's what we would have done. The pool area immediately below the apartment was kept very clean, as were the other pools, (there are 6 around and about) We only visited one other, they vary on how busy they are. There is no pool noise in the evening, even though you overlook one. There was a bit of noise from some Spanish residents/visitors, but this was intermittent and not a problem, my sister didn't even notice it The extras we liked were: The extensive local information; The shutters on the windows, shutting out all the light; The jet bath; The cupboard with essentials in it (Olive oil, salt, tea bags etc) The Magazines and films; We didn't use them but there were hairdryers for use too; The Air-conditioning; The secure underground Parking; The Decor; The very helpful & friendly owners. We didn't have any problems with it, but we were a bit anxious about the electricity being metered. We didn't know until we arrived, it is set to an amount for your stay and if you use more you can top it up with Euros. We had a reasonable amount left when we checked out, but I did keep looking at it. It is a good base for a family holiday, around the pool. The other people we met, all had cars too. The location if you have a car is excellent for getting to almost anywhere, Gibraltar, Estepona, Puerto Banus and inland to Rhonda etc. We do wish we'd booked two weeks really. Response: I am so glad all the hours we spent talking on the phone paid off and you were able to really make the most of your holiday. We are always happy to help guests prepare for their stay and once we get talking about all the things the area has to offer we can't stop! We normally take a leisurely stroll down to the Marina, have a nice big lunch and then get a taxi back - we are on holiday after all. The walk back is normally nicer in the evenings when the temperature has dropped a bit. The location is why we love Duquesa Village so much, you're close enough if you want a piece of the action, but far enough away to be able to relax without being disturbed - perfect! If you fancy staying for 2 weeks, there's always next year! |

We spent just over a week in Michelle & Alex's apartment in Puerto Duquesa. The booking process was very simple and Michelle sent over a lot of information about the area and the apartment prior to booking. The apartment itself had plenty of room for our party of 4 adults and 1 child. It had everything we were looking for in terms of facilities and space. A lovely well equipped kitchen with plates, cups, bowls, cutlery, pans, salad bowls etc. 2 beautiful bathrooms and bedrooms and a lovely outside seating area where we sat to eat or have a drink before going out for meals. There are a number of well kept pool areas for swimming and sunbathing and just down the hill there are a couple of bars and small shops. The apartment is located about a 25-30 minute walk from Duquesa, it is on a fairly steep hill so the walk back from the marina takes a little longer. Duquesa marina has a wealth of restaurants and bars ranging from Italian, Chinese, Thai, Argentinian (beautiful steaks), Traditional Spanish etc so there is something for all tastes. There are a number of supermarkets nearby and a lovely beach. The only issues we had during our stay were a fault with the cistern in the main bathroom and the electric meter was set incorrectly and overcharging us. These issues were quickly resolved by Mark (apartment maintenance) Overall a wonderful holiday and we would highly recommend the apartment. Response: First of all, apologies for the error with the electric meter. Unfortunately our key holder set it at the wrong rate at the beginning of your stay. We give all our guests 200kWh of electricity and normally this is more than enough to last you for your holiday. It is very rare that our guests end up paying any extra. However, I know that our key holder realised their mistake (they're only human, after all!) and re-set everything for you. It obviously didn't affect your holiday - it sounds like you had a great time! We will certainly try the Argentinian restaurant next time we are in Duquesa - always great to try somewhere new, especially from a guest recommendation! |
Guestbook for Duquesa Village
Hi Michelle
I would like to thank you for a fantastic apartment, facilities and the location at Duquesa Village, which made for a superb holiday. My son Ryan is now called 'The Fish' as he was hardly out of the pool and sea all week! We all had a fabulous stay there and the Puerto Duquesa area was stunning, with some great restaurants and bars at the harbour area, which we certainly made the most of!!! It is somewhere that we will definitely be considering returning to as a family again!
All in all, a holiday to remember ... and a marvellous way to celebrate my Mum's 60th birthday!

Dear Michelle
We wanted to thank you for the fabulous and very relaxed time we had at your apartment in Duquesa Village.
The kids really loved the pool and the quiet beaches were great to keep an eye on them. We really enjoyed the Straw Donkey and the owner's sense of humour!
The Mullen Family, August 2010
Dear Michelle
I would like to thank you and your husband for a lovely holiday my family had in your apartment in Duquesa Village. What a great place for families or couples, a real luxury home-from-home with all the little extras, which were very much appreciated. It was so nice to have the little things we take for granted at home but are never normally there when you rent an apartment. I couldn't have asked for anything more.
Both you and your husband were very helpful and made booking the flights and car hire so easy. The directions you gave us were clear and very easy to follow - I have to say they are idiot proof if I could get there! The information booklet you provide in the apartment about the local amenities, shops, restaurants, etc was also extremely helpful. I would love to go back, or try your other apartment. I would highly recommend it to everyone - this was one of the best holidays we have ever had - my only regret is we only stayed for a week!
Thank you very much from me, my children and my Mum. We loved it!
(PS. We also loved the Straw Donkey restaurant!)

Hi Michelle
Back from a fabulous week at your lovely apartment - it's been brilliant!
It was lovely to be somewhere so well-equipped with extras like a parasol for the beach, inflatables, hairdryer, washing machine and tablets, etc. We went to Casares on market day which was lovely, Gibraltar for the day and took a minibus tour which the boys really loved. They've never been in caves like that before and loved the apes (felt at home with them I think!). We've got some great pictures of them sitting on our shoulders. We went to Puerto banus for an evening which was an eye opener!
The pool was great and never crowded. The grounds are beautifully kept and the flowers are gorgeous. The boys played tennis a couple of times and we generally lolled about a lot!
So thank you very much - we've had a blast. I've been introduced to Mojitos by my 19 year old son - can't believe I've missed out on them for 46 years (!) and we've eaten tonnes of boquerronnes, olives and other lovely things. It was good to be there when Spain were still in the World Cup. Will certainly recommend your lovely apartment to friends and family!

Hi Michelle
Just returned from a week in your apartment in Duquesa. Just wanted to say a big thank you - the apartment was perfect and the location and the staff at the complex were brilliant, even the thunderstorms over the first weekend didn't dampen our spirits! Thank you again, we will certainly be recommending you to all our friends and family!
Steve Cormack, September 2009
Hi Michelle
Just a note to thank you for letting us use your apartment, it was more than we could have asked for - Stunning!
The apartment is high above a golf course. In a quiet location, the surrounding grounds are well maintained. Loved the secure parking - want one myself at home. The apartment is furnished to a very high standard, every thing you need with lots of extras - a real home from home. Large comfortable leather sofas with a dining table for 6 people. All the furniture was matching and looked brand new. Sky TV was a bonus. A selection of DVD's and books were also available. The information pack left in the apartment is comprehensive. Kitchen was equipped with every thing you can think of and there was lots of hot water. 2 Bedrooms 1 double and 1 twin had comfortable beds with options of quilts, if required. Bedding all match and was excellent quality. 2 Bathrooms one with a spa bath and the other had a shower. Both were immaculately clean, neat and tidy. The balcony is large with comfortable furniture to enjoy your evening drinks, this is over looking the pool. There were plenty of sun beds surrounding the pool. The pool is very clean and well maintained. I will be recommending this apartment to all my family and friends and will be returning for a holiday again next year.

Hi Michelle
We had a fantastic holiday at your Duquesa Village apartment. The apartment was fully equipped with everything we needed for our stay. We stayed with a small child and you had even provided plastic cups and plates. Everything was clean, tidy and in good working order. The standard of the furnishings was excellent. The poolside area was clean and safe and had a covered area which was great for little children to play under in the hot summer sun. A car is essential in this area as the apartment is at the top of a steep hill. Duquesa port is only 5 mins away in the car and is full of great places to eat and drink. Enjoy your holiday!
Mr & Mrs Baskill, September 2008
Dear Michelle
The excellent meet and greet service ensured that we knew all about the apartment, local and more distant areas, as well as where more details could be found - what a great idea the apartment manual is! Your attention to detail is superb, starting with a welcome bottle of wine and providing "freeview" UK TV, DVD player/ library, board games and pool/ tennis court toys. The apartment is well appointed with facilities and restaurants in the port, on the way to it and local supermarkets. It's ideal as a base for a family holiday, or golfing groups.
Nigel Pawson, August 2008
Hi Michelle
What a wonderful time we had at Duquesa, the apartment was fantastic with everything we could ask for and a great setting. The whole booking process and holiday was hassle free from start to finish. Thank you very much for a great holiday. We hope to do business again soon!
Mr Cox, August 2008
Dear Michelle
The apartment was beautifully clean with the beds freshly made for us. Heaven, especially as we arrived on a late night flight. When we drew back the patio curtains in the morning we saw the swimming pool and lush gardens. What a welcome for our first trip to Duquesa Village. It was also great having a fully fitted kitchen, as we didn't want to eat out all the time, so we were able to prepare proper meals the nights we stayed in. We still can't believe how cheap the apartment was, as it was the height of luxury. The photos do not do this location and apartment justice, so try it for yourself! We were so pleased with this holiday, we will definitely be coming back.
Mr & Mrs Barden, May 2008
Hi Michelle & Alex
We have just returned from a wonderful holiday at your apartment in Duquesa Village. The apartment is clean, spacious and has all the comforts of home. We really appreciated the extra touches, such as the DVD library and board games. We will definitely recommend the apartment to friends and sincerely hope to return again next year.
