Looking to get away from it all? Then come and discover the beauty and tranquillity of Suffolk and Norfolk, with their old-fashioned seaside resorts, Blue Flag beaches, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, charming villages and market towns, and miles of footpaths to explore.
There are some great days out in Suffolk. The beaches can be enjoyed all year round and RSPB Minsmere and Dunwich Heath offer access to rare birdlife and acres of heathland. Southwold's iconic pier and lighthouse are a great draw and there are golf courses, sailing clubs, day cruises of the Southern Broads, walking, cycling and crabbing on offer! Suffolk is also a haven for the arts and hosts, among other events, the Aldeburgh Music Festival, and Norfolk, with its miles of stunning sandy beaches, cliff-top walks along the North Norfolk Coastal Path, the attractions of Cromer Pier, pretty seaside villages and market towns, as well as a multitude of stately homes – Blickling, Felbrigg and Holkham Hall to name just a few – will not disappoint for a self-catering holiday!
The Dunwich area
Tucked away on the Suffolk coast, Dunwich is a pretty seaside village with great appeal for a family holiday or weekend away for couples. An excellent location for fishing, the village also boasts a beach café, visited from miles around for its famous fish and chips, an excellent pub serving Adnams beer, charming tea rooms and the ruins of a Friary.
Walk along the pebble beach to Dunwich Heath, in the care of the National Trust, which provides guided walks, childrens' activities and a delightful cliff-top restaurant and gift shop. There are miles of footpaths to explore here, as well as the coastal wetlands of RSPB Minsmere. Dunwich is a short drive from the bustling market town of Halesworth and the popular seaside resort of Southwold.
