The Hebrides region
Hillside is situated in the quiet township of Roskhill in the North West of Skye, a new build for the rental market for 2014.
A handful of houses here with peace and quiet guaranteed. Dunvegan village offers well equipped shops, petrol station, post office, bakers cafes and restaurants.
The village also boasts it's own millenium stone. This can be seen from miles around and you can walk up to the stone via St Mary's Church and the ancient cemetery where the Clan MacLeods are laid to rest. Superb views of MacLeods Tables (mountains) and the village can be seen from the millenium stone.
The World famous Dunvegan Castle & Gardens are approx 5 km away. Dunvegan Castle has been the home of the Chiefs of Clan MacLeod for 800 years.
Further down the road is Coral Beach where you can stroll along the white beach and watch the seals play in the water.
MacLeods Maidens offer a very good walk or off road cycle (approx 24km return) The views along the way are breathtaking, passing Loch Varkasaig, up into the forest, then out into the clearing before looking down from the top of a sea cliff to the Maidens (3 impressive sea stacks). If you do not wish to complete the full walk, why not stop after on 3km and enjoy the remote sandy beach at Varkasaig looking out towards the Cuillin mountain range.
Neist Point is another amazing place. Being the most North Westerly point on the Island, the views are spectacular, steep steps go down towards the lighthouse, well worth the effort.
There are just too many walks to list!!!
In and around Dunvegan are several arts and craft / photograph studios.
The old black house walk in museum is also nearby at Colbost (approx 4km) and is situated next door to the world famous Three Chimneys restaurant.
Boat trips operate from Dunvegan Castle throughout the summer months where you can see the seal colonies and various other wildlife at close quarters. Fishing trips can also be arranged.
Canoeing - Loch Dunvegan and Loch Roag are very good spots.
Fishing - lots of lochs to go fishing in, although you could just drop a line off Dunvegan pier or Neist Point
Skye is part of the Dark Sky programme. You can star gaze from the garden. Many constellations are very clear due to the unpolluted sky. The Northern Lights can also be seen from the croft at various times of the year or from many other places on Skye.
Ideally located for walking, climbing, cycling, bird watching, and many other outdoor pursuits.
Dunvegan Castle home of the Clan MacLeod is a ten minute car ride away.
If you don't want to wander too far, there are lovely walks on the doorstep. The Cuillin mountains are a 20 minute drive away, or if you fancy something less challenging there are an abundance of walks/bike routes to suit anyone, just ask us for more information.
Whether you are looking for a quiet chilled out or full on adventure holiday, Hillside is the ideal destination for the single traveller, couples, families, friends and honeymooners alike.
The Isle of Skye, Eilean a` Cheo (The Island of Mist) is an Island of outstanding natural beauty situated off the west coast of mainland Scotland and is the largest and best know of the Inner Hebrides. It is approx 50 miles long and 7 to 25 miles broad with a coastline of around 350 miles. Nowhere , infact, is further than 5 miles from the seal.
the geology of Skye represents an immense range of geological processes and around 1000 million years of Scotland's history. there are rocks representative of all three geological periods, Triasic, Jurassic and Cretaceous.
The Cuillins, the Old Man of Storr and the Quirang have long been favourites with climbers. Munro baggers and walkers alike. Naturally, both mountain and sea provide a haven for wildlife which abounds on the Island. There are frequent sightings of seals, porpoise, dolphin by the ever near shores, with rarer sights of otters, basking sharks and whales. Whilst Sea Eagles are plentiful, even the magnificent Golden Eagle has been spotted with some regularity.
The native language is Scottish Gaelic, although a high percentage of the spoken word heard is English.

"Great Base to explore Skye"
Cottage equipment is excellent - everything we needed for a self catering stay. You even get a flask provided. Found this a great base from which to explore all the Island has to offer. We travelled all over the place.

"Very convenient, well appointed cottage."
This small house is very conveniently located in the Dunvegan area of Skye. It is modern, well appointed and very clean and comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked with utensils and the washer and dryer are a plus for cleaning and drying your clothes. The hosts are great with very good communication. Overall a very good value. We would highly recommend.

We stayed at Hillside Cottage for part of our Honeymoon, and it was absolutely fantastic! Gail and Spencer were very friendly, and helpful. Hillside Cottage is ideally located on the Isle of Skye at a point where we could get anywhere we wanted to go. In addition to an idea position, the cottage is quiet and cozy and perfect for a getaway without interruptions. Highlights: The provided book of Skye walks was VERY helpful, and Gail offered some assistance when we had some questions about various walks. Wi-fi, TV, and Xbox made this trip like home away from home. While we spent a majority of the day away from the cottage, we were able to come back, relax on the couch, and watch some television. Nice, spacious kitchen saved us a lot of money in the long run. One of the key reasons we wanted to stay at a self-catering location was to live like locals for a week. The kitchen was very modern, and well stocked with all the essential equipment. Be prepared for amazing scenery. I know this is a blanket statement about Scotland, and especially the Isle of Skye, but be prepared. We had a 3 hour drive from Inverness to the Cottage that, I believe, took us 6 hours, because it was just so beautiful. I definitely recommend the Fairy Pools Skye walk if you get the chance, we had a great time with that one (my only recommendation for that... bring some bug spray during midge season). ---- Nerd note: If you plan on using the XBox to access Netflix or another streaming video service, you may want to switch it to HDMI. Just be sure you switch it back when you're all done :)

"Perfect location to explore Skye"
The recently built property is nice, clean and spacious enough for four adult visitors. Equipped with everything you might think of would be necessary for a comfortable stay, whether you are an hardcore trekker spending most of the time exploring the island or just to chill out away from city rush. For rainy days there is an Xbox with games, DVDs (Skyfall included) and a very fast internet connection and a woodburner if the weather turns really cold. Perfect location to explore Skye, peace and tranquility included at no additional cost! We will definitely stay again at Hillside Cottage.

"Well equipped, clean and smart cottage in a convenient location for exploring Skye"
Hillside Cottage is comfortable and very well equipped particularly the kitchen. The location is great if you want to get around the Island and explore. We found the information on walks provided very helpful together with the maps.Gail welcomed us then left us to ourselves which is what we prefer.

"Excellent cottage, very comfortable and in a great location"
My husband and I stayed at Hillside cottage for the May holiday weekend along with our 7 year old son. We booked the cottage even though it was a new rental and there weren't any reviews at that point, and we're so glad we did! We had a lovely welcome from Gail just after we arrived to explain how a few things worked and it was great to know they were just up from us in their own home if we needed anything. The cottage itself was excellent, very modern, comfortable and with everything we could possibly need for our stay. The rooms were spacious and had plenty storage for clothes etc The kitchen had all the mod cons and for us a dishwasher which was a delight as we've never owned one in our own home! The sitting room was very comfortable and we really enjoyed the wood burning stove although found that the one evening we used it, we were extremely toasty - ideal in the colder winter months or if you've been caught out in the rain and need warming up. There is free wifi available as well as Sky TV and a supply of board games and DVDs which we didn't end up using as we were out and about most days, but handy to have for the rainier/winter days. The cottage was easy to find and just a few minutes drive from Dunvegan. A great location for exploring the rest of the Island. We had a great time staying here and would definitely book the cottage again next time we're visiting Skye.
