The Western Australia region
Australia is one of the oldest continents, with Australia’s South West having an Aboriginal history spanning more than 50,000 years, while European settlement dates only from the early 19th century but now has world-class wineries. The Mediterranean-style climate and rich fertile soils provided just the right environment for growing grapes, and a variety of wine styles and blends are produced, from complex cool-climate cabernets to elegant dry chardonnays.
The warm, sunny summers provides perfect beach weather with a maximum temperature of around 32 degrees Celsius, and winters are pleasantly cool and mild with an average of 14 degrees Celsius.
All these advantages have developed for Australia’s South West a reputation for world-class food and wine combined with an outdoor lifestyle, and provide a fascinating contrast of countryside, cultures, and activities.
Dunsborough is centrally located for both surf beaches and calm swimming beaches, snorkelling, scuba diving, boating, and fishing. Ashore there is a wide range of both outdoor activities (horseriding, golfing, caving) and indoor pursuits (wine tasting, restaurants, arts and crafts). You can choose coffee or an excellent breakfast at casual cafes, fine dining at international standard restaurants, the local pub, or the popular fish-&-chip shop.
