The South/Borders region
From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the rugged landscapes of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. The beautiful countryside of Dumfries and Galloway is littered with fortresses and strongholds, testimony to its dramatic history. Moving north, the Highlands are to Scotland what the Pyrenees are to France, with equally breathtaking scenery and fantastic opportunities for walking and mountaineering.
Aviemore and the Cairngorms National Park are particularly famous for skiing, whilst Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Britain at 1343m, is a firm favourite for those seeking a challenge. For the less energetic, the Whisky Trail provides a unique way of exploring many of Scotland’s attractions and for quieter moments, there’s always Loch Ness and a chance to spot the elusive monster!
Scotland also has some of Britain’s best and cleanest beaches. Cromarty is famous for its bottle-nosed dolphins and Nairn, whilst claiming to be one of the sunniest and driest places in the country, has glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam. Several islands lie off the Scottish coast, each with their own character and heritage, however the Isle of Skye is probably the best known and most visited.
As the largest of the Inner Hebrides, Skye’s turbulent geological past has bequeathed it a stunning coastline. Experienced walkers are drawn to the Black Cuillin Mountains, whilst those less experienced have an array of lower level coastal walks from which to choose or alternatively, visitors can take some time to visit Skye’s capital, the charming harbour town of Portree.
Duns area
In a wide valley known as The Merse the small border town of Duns was the capital of the Scottish Borders whilst the current capital, Berwick-upon-Tweed, was under English rule. With a wide range of shops, pubs and restaurants, the town also boasts more unusual activities such as the Jim Clark Museum, open to the public and dedicated to the famous racing driver who lived in the area.
Throughout the surrounding area are numerous castles and historic houses, including Floors Castle and Gardens, the largest inhabited house in Scotland, Norham Castle situated on the River Tweed, Mellerstain House and Paxton House with its magnificent Country Park. To the east are the wonderful beaches at Coldingham and golfers will enjoy the superb facilities at Dunbar.

The price for a 3 night break is either 75% of the normal weekly rental or, if it is higher, the quoted Winter Short Break price. Extra nights are charged pro rata of the weekly rental. OSBs can be booked within a calendar month of the start date of the holiday.
'Last Minute Breaks'(LMB) are available at most properties throughout the 'Low', 'Mid', 'High', 'Peak', 'Xmas' and 'New Year' periods. The price for a 3 night break is either 65% of the normal weekly rental or, if it is higher, the quoted Winter Short Break price. Extra nights are charged pro rata of the weekly rental. LMBs can be booked within one week of the start date of the holiday.
