The Scottish Borders region
From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain's best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.
The village of Swinton has been a rural centre since the 11th Century, but has been in its present form since the 1700s. Swinton lies just five miles north of Coldstream, which is on the banks of an excellent salmon river for anglers. Once the main town of the area, Duns, is steeped in history and a visit is highly recommended. There are many castles in the area and grand houses throughout the Scottish Boarders as well as the outdoor pursuits of fishing, golf and walking to keep everyone occupied during their visit. The east coast, with its beautiful, unspoiled beaches, is only a short drive away and Scotland's capital, Edinburgh, can be reached in an hour. This is a lovely area and can be enjoyed all year round and is a great base to see all the region has to offer.
