The Donegal region
The hills and cliffs of North West Donegal are still relatively unfrequented and little restraint is put on walkers. Nearby there are stunning unspoilt beaches, forest walks, quiet country roads and a wealth of historical sites to explore. The more energetic walker will discover the inaccessible spots; the dramatic cliff walks; the remote hills, glens and lakes which the driver misses.
The Rosses boasts a large number of habitual high cliff faces, fine sandy beaches, upland heath and bog and important wetland areas. These plus the estuaries of Gweedore and Gweebarra provide rich feeding habitat for large numbers of bird species.
The fishing enthuasist will be well catered for in the Rosses with 130 lakes, river, shore and sea fishing to choose from. Information on permits, boat hire, tackles and advice can be obtained from the Rosses angelers association.
For golfers thers is a choice of excellent links courses to choose from in the Rosses area. The more energetic golfer will find sufficient challenge in the 18- hole links while those with a more leisurely approach will find the 9- hole links equally enjoyable.
