Dungarvan Manor is the restored wing of a sixteenth century castle. Located just outside Dungarvan at Millstreet, County Waterford, it is bounded to the south by the lush pasture lands of the Blackwater Valley, and to the north by the rugged beauty of the Nire Valley. Set in on over an acre of gardens which sweep down to the River Finisk, this castle country house offers an idyllic retreat for both relaxation and adventure.
The house is situated on 170 acres of dairy pasture land, and all our guests are invited to experience a slice of life on a working farm. Milking takes place twice a day, between 7.30 and 8.00 each morning, and between 5.00 and 5.30 each evening. All are welcome to view, or indeed lend a hand if so inclined.

Further details outdoors:
The gardens can be entered through the little gate or 'geatin' situated directly across from our front door. This walk will take you beneath the original 16th century walls before sweeping down to the river Finisk and Mountain Castle bridge. From here the garden walkway will take you back to the main entrance and the 14 foot original castle gates which were in place before the erection of the bridge.
It is said that two horses had to be employed to haul them across the river! The stone enclosed avenue will lead you back to the house's front gardens, where a gentle detour will lead you to the castle cellar. This cellar was closed for many years before being reopened in 1990. It provides an interesting view of the castle's foundations, which are built into the solid rock beneath.

The Dungarvan area
The house is located 15 minutes drive from Dungarvan, the administrative headquarters for County Waterford. Dungarvan is a thriving, seaside market town nestled beneath the Knockmealdown Mountains, situated beside Dungarvan Harbour where the River Colligan broadens and enters the sea.
The Norman's built a large fortification in the 13th century at the entrance to the harbour. The fifth and sixth Dukes of Devonshire decided to rebuilt the town in the nineteenth century. This reconstruction of Dungarvan has left us with the delightful Georgian appearance that the town still has today.
