The Donegal region
Steeped in heritage, history and culture the North West represents a unique opportunity to sample a rich array of sights, sounds and tastes waiting to enrich your holiday experience.
Visitor attractions range from heritage centres, national parks, museums and castles to traditional music sessions, storytelling and dancing. On the fringe of the Donegal Gaeltacht area you will find yourself entering a world where Irish is still the first language of the local community.
Dunfanaghy area
Dunfanaghy is a small village. Formerly a fishing port it has reinvented itself to become a major tourist destination in Donegal. The village is also home to a golf club, several art galleries and craft shops, and a museum, situated in part of a former workhouse, which describes the effects of the Irish Potato Famine on Dunfanaghy.
Across the bay from Dunfanaghy is Horn Head, which shelters Dunfanaghy from the Atlantic Ocean and is an Irish Natural Heritage Area. Dunfanaghy is close to Port-na-Blagh and Marble Hill, both of which also have popular beaches. Other sights in the vicinity include: Ards Forest Park, Ards (Capuchin) Friary, Glenveagh National Park, Doe Castle and the Derryveagh Mountains, the most prominent being Muckish Mountain and Mount Errigal.
Dunfanaghy stables offer unspoiled locations, endless mountain tracks and remote sandy beaches that go on for as far as the eye can see, which will exhilarate any rider beyond belief. They offer a wide variety of rides on willing responsive horses, cobs and ponies which will please both the experienced and inexperienced riders.
