About this location
The Province of Munster region
Ireland is split up into 4 provences - Munster, Leinster, Ulster and Connaught.
Dundrum is in the heart of Tipperary and Tipperary is in the heart of Munster which makes Dundrum the ideal base for touring Munster. You can do daily drives to all corners of Munster and return in good time for your evening entertainment.
Dundrum is approximately 1 hour drive to Shannon and Cork International Airports.
Besides the "Rock of Cashel" and "Holycross Abbey" there are plenty of scenic places to visit - The Glen of Aherlow which offers breathtaking views of the Golden Vale some of the finest pastures in ireland - swing round by the Galtee Mountains - head north to Nenagh, take a river cruise in Kilaloe, drive up the coast road alongside "Lough Derg" - stop in Portumna and watch the river cruisers pottering about - that drive is a full day in itself. Alternatively head south through Cashel and Clonmel, pass the "Magners Cider factory" down to Waterford - through Waterford on to Dunmore East - you could spend a full week doing trips like this and still have more to see.
If you are a Golfer - take a day off - go next door to the Hotel - while the golfers are hacking their way around the golf course the family can relax in the leisure centre and then all meet up in "The Venue" for a bit of lunch. Sometimes at the week ends there is a disco in the Venue so join the locals for a night out.
Or if the weather is good give me a call and I will supply some relaxer chairs with cushions to chill in the back garden.
Dundrum House Hotel is the focal point in the area, it has a magnificant 18 hole golf course and a leisure centre with indoor pool. It is open to the public at daily subscriptions and is within walking distance from the house.
"The Venue" is the clubhouse and has a public bar and restaurant which serves wholesome meals at reasonable prices.
Cashel with its famous "Rock of Cashel" is a 20 minute drive and offers a good variety of restaurants including a Thai "The Ruin Mying Thai" on your right as you enter the town and does authentic Thai dishes. At the other end of the market there is "Ches Hands" which is puerly quisene. There are several other restaurants from Italian to Indian etc. There is also a "Tesco" supermarket to make our UK tourists feel at home.
A short drive from the house is what is kinown locally as the "Forrest Walk" and here you will find lots of local residents getting a bit of excersise - it is lovely and peaceful and has a pond in the middle and you will often see Swan Familys swimming about.
The village is about 1km from the house and has 2 supermarkets, a doctors surgery, a garage and a couple of pubs. Berties bar is a traditional Irish pub and serves a fine pint of the "Black Stuff". There is also a very big garden centre on the way to the village and it is well worth a visit - it is free !!.
In the summer time the back garden is the only place to be - set up the BBQ, break open a case of beer and watch the late golfers hacking their way through the 4th.
