The region is steeped wit history and you can visit Robert Burns House and the birth place of John Paul Jones.

Dumfries

Carsethorn is in a beautiful, quiet and undiscovered part of Scotland, within easy reach of the border and motorways. Yellow Gates Cottage looks out onto a magnificent coastline, perfect for watching the migrating birds on the Solway Firth. Situated directly on the coast, with views over the water of the Cumbrian Hills.

There are many walks available from Carsethorn village, along the coast to Southerness, before turning inland to visit the historic cottage of John Paul Jones. Or head up the hill from the village and climb Criffel, with magnificent views over the Solway and to the Cumbrian hills in the distance. Continue on and down into New Abbey to enjoy teas at The Abbey Teashop and visit the historic Site of Sweetheart Abbey and learn its story. Mabie Forest is the original mountain biking venue in Dumfries and Galloway, and offers every level of challenge to the cyclist. If you want something gentler, then pedal along the local quiet roads perhaps to Southerness and visit the lighthouse and enjoy a bag of chips or an ice cream. On a little further to Kippford, a pretty village set on the Urr estuary and enjoy a pint at the Anchor or a cup of tea, over looking the boats moored on the river.

This unspoilt countryside offers something for everyone.
