Located in a hamlet of three properties in beautiful open countryside the peace and quiet can be enjoyed in the large private garden with patio, putting green and rough tennis court. There is ample off-road parking for 2 or 3 cars. Ideally located for walking and cycling on the local network of quiet country roads and paths. Several beaches, golf courses, historic sites and small towns to visit locally. For autumn, winter or spring breaks, the Cottage is fully double glazed and has an open fire in the lounge to add the 'cosy' factor to the electric heating in the rest of the property.

The South/Borders region
Dumfries and Galloway is probably Scotland's best kept secret. A region of beautiful countryside, coast and pleasant towns and villages full of interest and history. This is 'Robert Burns' country. He was born and grew up in Ayrshire and later lived and was buried in Dumfries. There is a choice of golf courses within a few miles. Turnberry will be hosting the 2009 British Open Championship and is 60 miles from Rose Cottage.
Dumfries and Galloway / Port William area
Set in the gently rolling countryside of the Wigtownshire peninsula, Rose Cottage is one of three properties that comprise the hamlet of Clachan of Myrton. The nearest settlement is Port William approximately 3 miles away.
For those who wish to explore, there is an excellent network of paths, cycleways and quiet country roads that link the area’s small towns, villages and numerous historic and natural features. In early spring, the woodland areas are covered in carpets of snowdrops, then bluebells and in early summer, rhododendrons provide colourful splashes.
For more strenuous walking and cycling, marked trails in the Galloway Hills and Forests are within easy reach with good parking and visitor centres provided. There are three of the ‘Seven Stanes’ off road cycling trails within an hour’s drive of Rose Cottage. In season, salmon fishing is available on the River Bladnoch.
The county town of Wigtown has developed as Scotland’s ‘book town’, with numerous specialist bookshops, arts and craft shops and cafes. The whole area is rich in archaeological sites, including: St. Ninian’s Church at Whithorn (established in the 4th Century); stone circles; Mesolithic and Iron Age forts and castles from the age of Robert the Bruce. In more recent times, Garlieston Bay was used to test the "Mulberry" floating harbours that were so vital to the D-Day landings in 1944.
There are many other places to visit including: the Royal Botanic Garden at Logan; Castle Kennedy; Bladnoch Distillery and day trips to Northern Ireland (Belfast, Giant’s Causeway etc) via the ‘Fast Cat’ ferries from Stranraer. There are beaches less than 4 miles from the cottage.
How to get there

Further details outdoors: The near acre of garden is mainly lawn with a small area of woodland with a range of rhododendrons to provide colourful splashes in early summer and other ornamental shrubs for later colour. The immediate surroundings comprise views over farmland to the south and mature woodland to west, north and east making the garden very sheltered. There is a large patio area adjacent to the cottage with robust wooden outdoor furniture. There is a 'rough' tennis court and a putting green. Bicycles belonging to the owners are kept at the property and guests may borrow them but as their mechanical condition cannot be guaranteed, this is at your own risk.
Further details
The cottage's accommodation is all on the ground floor. There is a shallow step between the living/dining room (where the entrance door is located) and the rest of the property. The door to the bathroom may be rather narrow for wheelchair access.
