Home description

Wonderfully positioned on the shores of Loch Ken and accessed by a delightful single track road through deciduous woodland, Boat O’ Rhone Cottage is an ideal base for a holiday in Galloway. The house sleeps up to 6 adults, is well equipped, and furnished to a high standard throughout. It is double glazed and has full central heating.

Enjoying relative seclusion, there is a small village shop in Mossdale (2 miles) and the nearby towns of New Galloway and Castle Douglas provide excellent local shopping and places to eat. Loch Ken is a natural centre for water sports with, on the far shore, a marina with water skiing and, further up the loch, Galloway Sailing Centre with instruction and hire of boats, canoes, windsurfers etc plus adventure pursuits. The loch is a well known coarse fishery and the cottage has both fishing and boating rights on the loch

The South/Borders region

Dumfries & Galloway is an unspoilt region rich in wildlife and local history. The climate is mild and there are a number of sandy beaches on the Solway coast. There are a number of attractions within easy reach of the cottage.

Dumfries and Galloway / Mossdale area

Castle Douglas is famous as 'Scotland's Food Town' with a large number of specialist shops and food-related businesses. Various music festivals take place throughout the year and there are several historical monuments like Threave Castle to explore. Cream O'Galloway is typical of the visitor attractions in the area.

Boat O’Rhone Cottage is well positioned to explore the many delights in the surrounding area. Hill walking is accessible close by and the old railway line (now disused) runs close to the cottage and can be walked for several miles into the hills with their wonderful bird life including the thriving population of red kites. There are a number of Golf Courses nearby and this is great cycling country with access to two of the main trails on the ‘7 Stanes’ network at Dalbeattie and Newton Stewart.
