Home description
The Coach House was converted into two spacious apartments some 15 years ago. The upstairs flat (accessed separately from the rear of the building) is occupied by our charming caretakers who will be pleased to give local advice on forest tracks, good fishing spots etc. The larger ground floor flat is available for holiday rental and consists of two double bedrooms, one with en suite shower, a separate bathroom, a good sized well equipped modern kitchen and a very large living/dining area which also contains two spare beds. We can also offer five star accommodation for horses and dogs.
All rooms look out onto a charming lochan (Scottish for pond) which is stocked with brown trout. Slogarie estate consists of a little over 100 acres of beautiful mature woodland (including tree house) and rough grazing which visitors are free to explore. The estate borders the Back water of Dee, a lovely river with salmon and trout fishing, and two huge areas of national parkland containing miles of paths and bridleways, forests, hills and lochs.
Within 20 - 40 minutes drive are the charming towns of Castle Douglas, New Galloway and Kircudbright with many welcoming pubs and restaurants, at least half a dozen outstanding golf courses (all of which welcome visitors) and many beautiful beaches. Galloway really does have it all.

The South/Borders region
Galloway - the area east of Dumfries along the coast to Stranraer and north as far as Ayr, is one of the undiscovered jewels of Europe. 90% of visitors to Scotland head north to the highlands - wrongly imagining the countryside in the South West of Scotland to be tame in comparison. Whilst this neglect may be unfair, one very pleasant side effect of the lack of tourism combined with lack of heavy industry is that the area is almost deserted - even in summer you can drive for miles along stunningly beautiful country roads without meeting another vehicle.
Dumfries and Galloway / New Galloway area
Whilst the major attraction of the area is undoubtedly the stunning scenery and wild life (deer, otters, red kite, golden eagles), there are plenty of other things to see and do in Galloway. Kircudbright is well known as an artists town and Castle Douglas as a food town. There are many fine golf courses in the area and all welcome visitors. Sailing, wind surfing and water skiing are all available on nearby Loch Ken. Horse riding and mountain bike hire can also be arranged and there are a number wonderful beaches within 30 minutes of Slogarie by car.
How to get there
Fly to Prestwick with Ryanair. By car from Prestwick head south along the A77 (towards Stranraer) until you reach left hand turn at roundabout for A713 towards New Galloway. Turn right at the Ken Bridge Hotel to take the road into New Galloway. go straight down the high street and contine south out of the town along the A762 down the western shore of Loch Ken. 6 miles from New Galloway turn right onto a single track road signposted for Slogarie House and Coach House. Follow the track for just over a mile (ignoring turnings to the left) until you reach a fork in the road signposted for the Coach House.
From the South by car take the M6 towards Glasgow. Immediately after crossing the border from England into Scotland turn left onto the A75 towards Stranraer. Follow the A75 around Dumfires and past Castle Douglas. Two miles after Castle Douglas turn right at Ringford onto the A762 towards Lauriston and New Galloway. Continue straight through Lauriston village. 3 miles after Lauriston turn left onto single track road signposted for Slogarie House and Coach House. Follow the track for just over a mile (ignoring turnings to the left) until you reach a fork in the road signposted for the Coach House.

Further details indoors: Slogarie Coach House has a suprisingly modern feel to it with huge full length windows looking out onto the lochan and the woods behind the dominant feature. The huge living/dining area provides plenty of space for a range of indoor activities in the event of rain.
Further details outdoors: The lochan in front of the Coach House is only 3 or 4 foot deep in most parts but is fun for children to mess around in (under supervision). There are several deeper pools for swimming within walking/biking distance of the house. Visitors are free to roam the woodlands and rough pastures of the estate and there is an exciting tree house for the more adventurous. We have a range of old bikes which visitors are welcome to borrow although those wishing to tackle the well known mountain bike trails in the area will probably prefer to provide their own equipment.
Further details
We have stabling and an outdoor arena for horses and welcome guests who wish to bring horses with them. One of the family can usually be persuaded to ride out with visitors as a guide to the many hacking trails which surround Slogarie. Sadly, due to the prohibitive cost of insurance, we can't offer riding on our own horses.
In order to keep rates as low as possible for those planning to be out and about a lot, use of central heating is not included in the basic rental rate.
