Everything is inclusive in the price and there are no hidden extras. Modern large kitchen and separate dining room. The garden has its own wildlife spectacular with red squirrels, woodpeckers, pheasants and numerous other birds. It is a photographers paradise.

The free DVD shows the cottage inside and outside, the wonderful wildlife in the garden and many places in the area which you may wish to visit. Please ask for it and we will post it to you immediately.

The Galloway Forest Park covers 300 square miles and Nutkin Cottage is an ideal base to discover this unspoilt corner of Scotland. Many forest walks start from the cottage door where you will find lochs and waterfalls amongst the magnificent scenery. A short drive from the cottage, away from the forest, you will find quiet beaches, friendly harbour villages with pubs and restaurants and miles and miles of coastline.

Red kites can be seen at Loch Ken and ospreys nest on Wigtown Bay. There is a cctv camera directed onto the ospreys nest and you can watch them feeding their chicks on a monitor in Wigtown Town Hall, which is a short drive from the cottage. Wigtown is the Scottish Booktown and has numerous bookshops.

There are many beautiful gardens to visit including the Logan Botanical where you will find many unusual tropical plants and palm trees. The Mull Of Galloway, being the most southern point of Scotland, is a great place to visit. There is a lighthouse and a Visitors Centre and thousands of seabirds, including puffins, guillemots and razorbills, can be seen on the cliffs.

This area offers many sporting facilities including brilliant game, sea and coarse fishing, sailing, golf, pony trekking, mountain biking, bowling and much more. The beautiful scenery of the Galloway Hills takes some absorbing and you will be overwhelmed by some of the sunsets over Wigtown Bay.

The market town of Newton Stewart on the River Cree is 5km away with supermarkets, shops, cinema, library, churches, pubs, restaurants, swimming pool, gym, etc.

The South/Borders region

The cottage is in the Dumfries & Galloway region of S W Scotland where life goes on at a steady pace and people are extremely friendly.

Dumfries and Galloway / Newton Stewart area

This area is steeped in history and there are many abbeys and castles to visit. It is a bird watcher's paradise with many species of birds including ospreys, red kites, buzzards, peregrine falcons and puffins just to name a few and occasionally a golden eagle if you are lucky.

Cairnsmore is a mountain amongst the many Galloway Hills and it is just 1 km. from the cottage. A slow walk to the summit gives fantastic views to the Isle of Man and beyond. The Gulf Stream affects this climate and therefore it is generally quite warm, this is also the reason that there are so many beautiful gardens to visit.

The Galloway Forest Park has many lochs, burns and places of interest including the Red Deer Park and the Wild Goat Park. There are ranger led walks where you can see spectacular sights, be it red deer or nightjars. Glen Trool is magnificent in its beauty and a famous battle ground where Robert The Bruce had success against the English Army.

The Forestry Commission have recently opened the 7 stanes mountain biking routes in the forest and they are ranked as the best in Great Britain. These are built with different routes to suit all abilities and mountain bike hire is available.

Fishing and sailing can be enjoyed from the many harbours and the miles of beaches and coastline.

You will find many places providing good food from superb fish restaurants in Portpatrick to smaller tearooms where you can enjoy home made soup and a roll. Kitty's Tearoom in New Galloway is excellent, with puddings to die for!

There is the Castle Douglas Food Town, the Kirkcudbright Artists Town, Wigtown Booktown and many more small towns and villages, all with their own bit of magic including a distillery to visit. The world famous Gemrock Museum in Creetown is 6 km from the cottage, certainly worth a visit.

Ferries sail from Stranraer to Ireland where you can take a day trip to visit Belfast or the Antrim Coast and visit the Giants Causeway.

Guestbook

Fantastic! Without doubt the nicest place we have stayed in. We will all be back

You have a little bit of paradise here. Thank you for letting us share it. Never found time to read the books I brought.

Thank you for your warm welcome and delicious goodies. The cottage and surroundings are superb. Shared my breakfast with a red squirrel on Thursday. Saw an otter at the otter pool last night. Sign posts say ‘Haste-ye-back’ and we certainly will.

Another most enjoyable holiday, we love it here, just like coming home, so welcoming.

Great cottage, wonderful hospitality, superb wildlife, stunning walks, we are coming back.
