The Devon region

Oak Tree Holiday Cottage is centrally located between the North Devon and South Devon coasts. Both are easily accessible within an hour by car and the towns of Taunton, Barnstaple, Exeter and Minehead are all within 25 miles.

National Trust properties in the area to visit are Dunster Castle, Knightshayes Court and Arlington Court. For railway enthusiasts the West Somerset Railway one of Somerset's top tourist attractions and the Cliff Valley Railway at Lynton/Lymouth are well worth a visit.

The cottage is situated in quiet West Somerset countryside on the southern edge of Exmoor National Park ANOB. The nearest town of Dulverton, a bustling little market town where time has stood still with National Park Visitor Centre, tea shops, galleries, farm shop, butchers, deli and a selection of interesting shops and good pubs and restaurants.

Nearby is the ancient clapper bridge over the River Barle known as Tarr Steps dating from 1000BC between Dulverton and Withypool with riverside inn. The scenic Wimbleball Lake Country Park lying within the National Park surrounded by woodland and meadows is a short drive away offers "first class facilities both on and off the water". Wimbleball Lake has been nominated as the first Dark Sky Discovery Site on Exmoor - so it's a great place to simply gaze at the stars.

Exmoor National Park is a great place to explore and enjoy with over 1000km of footpaths and bridleways, through woodland, by rivers and on open moorland.

"Immaculately presented property with outstanding rural views"

We stayed at Oak tree Cottage W/C 7th June and from the moment the friendly owner Mike opened the front door we loved it. It was better than the pictures portrayed, every room was vast and immaculately presented and each room seemed to get better and better, all within keeping of the property's period, but with modern twists. We felt so spoilt as there was just the two of us

The views from the kitchen and the main bedrooms upstairs are absolutely spectacular. The garden which is stunning and has views to die for ,is a wildlife sanctuary, with duck's ducklings, sheep and Red Deer (which we saw grazing almost every day) in the neighboring field. It is also a sun trap and has the sun from sunrise to sunset, it was truly beautiful.

I can't praise the property enough, you always want to stay somewhere that is better than your own home and this doesn't disappoint. The owners, Gill and Mike, were so friendly, helpful and available, without being intrusive. The surrounding countryside is also stunning. You could stay for a month and do a different walk each day and the country inn's, with their open fires and fabulous view and food are like something from a film set.

I would recommend Oak Tree cottage to all families and country lovers and would go back in a heartbeat. If you like oldy worldy charm and natural beauty, Exbridge and the surrounding area is the place to go.

"a complete delight"

Really enjoyed our stay at Oak Tree Cottage: Gill is an excellent host and made us feel most welcome. The cottage is very well kitted out, warm, clean and quiet. The farm is great for the kids and there is a lovely garden out back. The weather was pretty bad but there is so much to do in Exmoor that it didn't stop us exploring every day - rivers, moorland and sea; tremendous wildlife, pretty towns and great food. Woods is great for a pint and especially for dinner.
