The Highlands region
The Scottish Highlands are the mountainous regions of Scotland north and west of the Highland Boundary Fault. It is popularly described as one of the most scenic regions of Europe.
The highlands claim a certain amount of distinction from the rest of Scotland in the continued use of the Gaelic language in some parts as well as strong cultural traditions of music and dance.
History of the Highlands dates back to Viking invasions and Scotland's defence tactics can be seen in remains of ancient cairns and stone settings.
A landscape to explore, a history to discover, many mountains to conqueur and a multitude of whiskies to savour.
Dufftown / Moray area
Dufftown is a thriving village located on the River Fiddich and is the location of several Scotch whisky distilleries. It produces more malt whisky than any other town in Scotland.
The largest and best known of these distilleries is the Glenfiddich distillery that distills Glenfiddich single malt Scotch whisky. The Glenfiddich distillery is owned by William Grant & Sons, Dufftown's largest employer. This proliferation puts it on the famed Whisky Trail, which also includes Keith, Tomnavoulin, Marypark, and Tomintoul.
Dufftown also boasts the highland games which take place every July attracting many tourists.
Dufftown's notable buildings include Auchindoun Castle and Balvenie Castle. The street plan of Dufftown is mainly four main roads meeting at the clock tower previously a prison but now a tourist information centre.
The area is ideal for walking and biking, with part of the Speyside way starting on the edge of the village. There are a number of good golf courses in the area including one in Dufftown. Convenient for many good fishing rivers.
For the children there are many attractions, pony riding, Landmark, the leisure pool at Elgin, Cairngorm mountain railway.
