The Dubrovnik Riviera/Islands region
Dubrovnik is one of the most beautiful cities on the Croatian coast.
In the Middle Ages the Republic of Dubrovik was an important rival of Venice. Many buildings in the old city centre testify of this glorious past and to its venetian influence.
The walls of Dubrovnik girdle a perfectly preserved complex of public and private, sacral and secular buildings representing all periods of the city’s history, beginning with its founding in the 7th century. Particular mention should be made of the city’s main street, Stradun, the Prince's Palace, the church of St Vlaho, the Cathedral, three large monasteries, the Custom's Office and the City Hall.
The Republic of Dubrovnik was the centre of a separate political and territorial entity, and was proud of its culture, its achievements in commerce and especially of its freedom, preserved down so many tempestuous centuries.
Today, Dubrovnik is also a very lively city, with many things to do, both at day and night times. The coast nearby offers all sorts of activities and the town has many restaurants, bars and nightclubs. It has definitely been discovered by tourists, so be ready for the crowds.
The bustling walled city of Dubrovnik presents its annual summer festival (10 July - 25 august). A dramatic opening ceremony with fireworks and music is followed by theatre, concerts, opera and dance productions on a series of open-air stages throughout this fascinating city.
The musical part of the festival was initially imagined as a showcase for the best domestic composers, soloists and orchestras, but today it has grown to become a real review of top solo artists and ensembles from all round the world. Opera, ballet and dance are also welcome visitors.
The Dubrovnik / Gruz area
The apartment is situated just above the Gruz port with the quay for ferries, boats and ships offering a wide range of daytrips to the surrounding islands: Mljet - the National park, Elaphite Islands, Korcula and boat-tours along the City Walls to the Old Town or Cavtat.
It takes only a 10-15 minutes local bus ride to the Old Town of Dubrovnik.
There are also near by: a bus terminal, supermarket, open-air grocery (green) market with a fresh fish offered daily, restaurants, travel agencies, exchange offices, rent a car offices, banks, pharmacies, bakery ...

The apartment is clean and has everything you need for self catering. Basic equipment and furniture but good value as reasonable rates. The owner is a lovely young woman, very helpful and picked us up from the bus station. There is a bit of a climb upto the apartment from the main street, but you can avoid some of the stairs by using a winding road up. Just 5 minutes away from the apartment you can catch the bus to the old town or a ferry to some lovely islands. |

We travelled as a newly wedded couple and wanted to rent a nice flat where to spend some time (since we weren´t eager to partying or going out late) with own little kitchen, bathroom and balcony with a seaview. Everything in the flat was as good as it seemed like in the pictures. The apartment had a Wifi-connection, hair dryer and a washing machine that turned out as a very good gadget. The kitchen was quite well equipped and had all basic supplies (plates, glasses, cutlery etc.) though it seemed to be equipped basically only for 2 persons (apartment had 3 beds). Views were brilliant, location was good (in the Gruz) but there was approximately 130 steps to the apartment which was sometimes a bit rough after a full-day walk in the city :) The Landlady and her family was extremely helpful and sweet and we can do nothing more than to recommend this place from all our heart! Thank you ever so much! |
