The Dubrovnik Riviera/Islands region

Dubrovnik enjoys a pleasant Mediterranean climate that sees many sunny days, even during winter. Generally the winters are quite mild with average days fluctuating between 10°C (50°F) and 5°C (41°F) while summer temperatures are around 30°C (86°F).
Other places to visit are the Island of Lokrum - Park of Nature is just 15 minutes by boat. There are also regular excursions to the Elaffitie islands which boast unspoilt nature and lovely beaches. National park Mljet is the most beautiful of these islands. There are also daily excursions to Cavtat, picturesque city in beautiful region of Konavle. In region of Primorje you can see numerous renaissance summer villas with the most known one with Arboretum in Trsteno. Peljesac peninsula is known by its wines and beautiful small villages (Viganj, Trstenik, Zuljana) with small not touristic beaches. Renaissance small town Ston has one of the oldest active salt plantations in the world.
A trip to Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina is also highly recommended!
The Dubrovnik / Dubrovnik Old Town area
LP-23 studio apartment is located in the Petilovrijenci street that connects the main street Stradun with the Peline street under the northern side of the city walls.
It is an old town with the city walls preserved all around it offering an insight of its history just walking along the streets or wisiting its museums, such as Rectors Palace Museum, Maritime Museum, Etnographic Museum, or the Museums of Franciscan and Dominican Monasterys, and numerous churches, as well as the palaces and fountains all around.

First trip to Croatia ... predominantly a city break in Dubrovnik. Prior to visiting Mara, our host, was prompt and helpful with a variety of email enquiries. Dubrovnik is a beautiful destination, albeit a very small city. You could do the city in a day, but it takes two or three to properly soak up the atmosphere and build up a photo album. I stayed in Mara's flat with a good friend for a week. We were out a lot of the time. The city is a good base point to also use for Day Trips on boats (some of which leave from the old city ..you don't have to travel to the new harbour) and coaches e.g. the nearby beach and resort of Cavtat. Although Mara lives on another floor in the house with immediate family, they are no way intrusive ...simply available if you have any enquiries. Infact although everywhere in and around the city felt safe and civilised, it was nice to have that extra sense of scurity about an inhabited building. The flat is half way down/up a steep slope of steps. Just to be clear ...so is almost everywhere in the city, and often outside it. So you will work off anything you eat! Many of the restaurants and cafe's are very average, but one of the very best (and cheapest) is just a few steps (up!) from Mara's by the name of Lady Pi Pi (which has, I'm told, many good reviews). None of the beaches are great, being more pebbles than sand, but many are acceptable, including two that are a 10 minute and a 1 hour walk from the city, and the swimming is excellent. If I went again would I stay at this flat? ...depends on circumstances....I'd also consider Cavtat and other parts of the country, but only because I've now done 2/3 days in the city and would be looking for something different. |
