The Dubrovnik Riviera/Islands region

The region Dubrovacko-Neretvanska streches itself over the tight coastal part with the islands from the area Neretva in the north till Prevlaka, the bay of the Croatia Saints, in the very south.

The head office of the region is situated in Dubrovnik.

The space of this region is characterised of two parts, once the relative tight coastal area with its numerous islands (the most important ones are Korcula, Mljet, Lastovo and the Elaphite islands) and the area of the Lower Neretva (Donja Neretva).

The coastal area is very unequal and always take turns from small protected bays and sandy beaches to cliffs that are always at the mercy of the open sea.

This area changes, make this region one of the most beautiful on the Mediterranean.

There are even 37 protected monuments, the principal are the national park Mljet, the Delta of the river Neretva and the Arboretum in Trsteno.

The most important cultural event is the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, founded in the year 1950.

Orasac is a small village in the Dubrovnik littoral, at the foot of Vracevo Brdo (Sorcerer's Hill) (442 m)

and Golo Brdo (Bare Hill) (298 m), which protect the village from the cold northerly winds

The church of Our Lady of Orasac (15th c.) was restored in Baroque style.

Below the village are the remains of the fortified castle Arapovo-Morovo (15th c.).

Next to the two-storey Danovic tower (16th c.) are chapels, residences and farm-stead.

A nice beach, beautiful sea and age-old olive-groves make the picturesque village of Orasac

an attractive tourist destination.

Below it, at the edge of high cliffs, are the remains of a monumental castle.

A legend say that the Florentine duke Pietro Soderini resided here after he had left Florence in 1512.
