The East Ireland / County Dublin region
Dublin is the capital city of Ireland. The Windmill is located in the historic docklands area right in the centre of Dublin city. In past times, the wonderful River Liffey accommodated sail trading ships mooring right in the heart of the city. These are now replaced by river cruisers, river taxis, pleasure craft, sail training ships and visiting naval boats.
This area of the city has been transformed in the last decade and is now home to iconic architecture throughout; the International Financial Services Centre; the O2 (formerly Point Depot) state-of-the-art entertainment venue; two new spectacular bridges over the Liffey; the national convention centre (due for completion in 2010); stunning developments at Georges Dock and Grand Canal Dock. All of Dublin city's attractions are close by, and the apartment is situated right at the hub of all city and country-wide transport links.
Why not consider the newly launched Dublin Bikes (db) scheme as a quick, easy, convenient and environmentally-friendly means of travelling around the city? Once you have registered, the first 30 minutes of every journey is free, so effectively you can use db as a totally free ‘hop on-hop off’ system to see the city. The Windmill is close to many db stations, giving you a great choice of where to start from – and where to end up!
Dublin / Dublin 2 area
The ultimate Dublin city centre location - situated South central riverside between the pedestrian Sean O'Casey Bridge and the Santiago Calatrava-designed Samuel Beckett Bridge. Close to all transport links, just a short walk to the Financial Services Centre, the O2 Centre, the Dublin Conference Centre (due to open in 2010), Trinity College, Temple Bar, all main shopping streets, various swimming pools, gyms, galleries. Also within walking distance of Croke Park & Lansdowne Road sporting grounds, & Sandymount beach.
Step out on either of the balconies and, looking upriver, see the Custom House, the Dublin Spire, the Four Courts; and in the other direction see the wonderful vista of the River Liffey opening out in the distance to Dublin Bay.
Dublin is a compact city centre which is easily explored on foot - its attractions, museums, galleries, theatres, shopping restaurants and pubs are all within walking distance of The Windmill.
The apartment is located on the route of the stunning Docklands Trail – 3.5 kilometers of mainly pedestrianised, riverside walk that takes you eastward along the Liffey towards the magnificent Dublin Bay, & loops back across the river bringing you right back into the city centre – a perfect fitness route for walking, jogging, running or for just a quiet stroll - taking the opportunity to enjoy some of the many fine restaurants and bars along the way.
Entry to the apartment is gained from Windmill Lane, site of the original great Windmill from which the building gets its name. Windmill Lane is the famous location of the studio where U2 recorded many albums-their current recording studio is a short walk away at Hanover Quay.
Also a short walk away are 2 light rail stations (Tara and Pearse) which give you immediate access to the beautiful fishing villages and seaside towns along Dublin Bay: Howth and Malahide to the north; Sandymount, Dalkey, Dun Laoire & Killiney to the south.
The Windmill is the perfect location in central Dublin to experience and enjoy : St Patrick's Festival, the annual Docklands Maritime Festival (literally on the doorstep), O2 concerts (just across river), business at IFSC, Trinity College, Christmas in Dublin (when the surrounding quaysides become a magical wonderland, with the many trees decorated by twinkling lights and a traditional Christmas Market located just across the river).
