The East Ireland region

The local area is steeped in history. Kilmainham Gaol which is a five minute walk away, is listed as one of the top ten sights to visit. The Gaol which was a former prison and is now a museum, played a significant part in Irish history. Many leaders of Irish rebellions were imprisoned and excecuted by both the British and in 1923 by the Irish Free State. Beside the Gaol is the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) which is housed in the Royal Hospital Kilmainham and considered to be the finest 17th century building in Ireland with beautiful grounds, gardens, cafe, shop etc. It is widely admired around the world for it's range of exhibitions. A five minute walk from here will bring you to the War Memorial Gardens which are a memorial to the Irish soldiers who lost their lives in World War 1. Five minute from here you will come to Phoenix Park which is one of the largest walled city parks in Europe covering 1,750 acres. The park is home to the residence of the President of Ireland since 1754. It also is home to Dublin Zoo, the Papal Cross, which was visited by Pope John Paul 11 in 1979. The oldest building in the park is Ashtown Castle dating back to the 15th century. The park also is home to wild Fallow Deer since the 17th century.

The Guinness Brewery is a twenty minute walk from the house or a short bus ride (bus no 123) which drops you directly to the Guiness Hops Store and museum,. Christ Church Cathedral which dates back to sometime after 1028 is less than a ten minute walk from here and from Christchurch you are just a couple of minutes from the city centre, Trinity college, Templebar.

A light train will take you to beautiful beaches along the coast. You can also visit the James Joyce tower in Sanycove which is serviced by the DART (light train)
