Riverview is a genuine Highland Cottage, traditionally built around 1910 with solid two foot thick walls. The cottage is detached and arranged on one level with easy access throughout.
Set in the quiet location of Strathnacro, just outside the small village of Balnain, RiverView is less than 3 miles from the popular tourist centre of Drumnadrochit and the famous Loch Ness. A further 20 minutes away, a beautiful drive along the shores of Loch Ness, is the vibrant Highland Capital of Inverness.
Whether you're looking for a quiet retreat with deserted country walks and abandoned beaches, or action packed climbing, mountain and quad biking, horse riding or sailing - RiverView Cottage will be your perfect base.
Nearby Inverness has excellent long distance transport links, from which RiverView Cottage can be reached via public transport.
Recently acquired and run by a local trust, for the benefit of two Inverness school boys, Riverview has been operated as a holiday let for almost twenty years.
Riverview cottage will comfortably accommodate four people in two bedrooms.
The kitchen, lounge and master bedroom are all dual aspect rooms, making the cottage a cosy but light and airy place to be.
The lounge has a feature fireplace with the thick walls retaining heat in the winter but keeping it cool in the summer.
The kitchen has been recently refitted with modern wall and base units and is well equipped while also providing room for dining.
You will find one double bedroom and one twin bedroom along with a shower room fitted with the usual electric shower, toilet, sink and shaver points.
Outside you have a private garden ground to the rear as well as side and front garden with established borders, trees and shrubs. There is a private drive with parking space enough for three or four cars. There is drive in drive out access, so no awkward reversing and turning.
Riverview cottage also benefits from it's own small area of woodland leading to the banks of the river Enrick.
The cottage is run on the simple premise of keeping life easy and honest. We therefore have a simple pricing policy of £300 per week off season and £500 per week high season.

About this location
The Scottish Highlands region
If you want to get out and about then the Highlands packs a lot of bang for your buck.
One of Her Majesties Millennium Cities, Inverness is a grown up 21st century city with a long and interesting history. The castle is a working court house that overlooks the river Ness where you will often find salmon fishermen pitting their wits against one of natures finest. There can't be many city centers where it's possible to see otters hunting and playing in the river. Of course there are many shops, cinemas, leisure and sports centers, churches, the Eden Court Theatre and more.
Draw a line due west and there is nothing but wilderness between RiverView Cottage and the Atlantic Ocean. So the air is fresh and clean, the trees hang heavy with lichen, and the opportunities for adventure are the best you'll find in the UK.
Access to the many islands is easy for a day trip or longer. A beautiful hour and half drive away, the Isle of Skye is now accessible via it's iconic toll free bridge.
You wont have to go far from RiverView Cottage in order to enjoy your stay.
Drumnadrochit has a wide range of local shops and amenities including Post Office, medical centre, garages, restaurants and pubs.
Just outside Drumnadrochit is Urquhart Castle and it's award winning visitors centre.
Glen Urquhart is a typical area at the 'heart of the Highlands'. Seldom more so than during it's Highland Games. These games aren't for show but a part of the living Highland tradition.
Loch Meickle is a very short distance away. It's surrounding area provides for great walking and cycling.
Loch Ness offers various watery activities including boat trips, sailing and water skiing. Then of course there is Nessie, our very own local monster.

"Lovely snug and well appointed cottage on fine location"
We (Dutch couple) stayed at RiverView for the first week of September 2013. It is snug, very well appointed and at a great location for roving about the Highlands. Contact with Adrian who rents it out… More

"Be aware. Deposit not repayed after repeatedly chasing."
The Accomodation didn't have anything special. The name is misleading. The TV wasn't working and after the stay when we asked for return of deposit repeatedly we were given all false informa… More
After 17 groups booking in this year we think just one bad customer is a good rate, but still disappointing. We should have known better when this guest arrived with a different group of people to the ones which they booked. We wont allow this again. We are sorry sir that you are angry about your small deposit, but TripAdvsior agreed with our decision and we would like to ask them to remove your unfair and untrue comments. As the party that booked was not the party that stayed we think you should be barred from leaving any comment.

"Lovely Little Cottage"
Myself and my two, very young, children enjoyed our stay at River View Cottage. As it was only myself and two small people the cottage was adequate for our needs.
River View has everything you need included, washing maching/dryer, ample kitchen equipment and utensils, wifi, plenty bedding and towels.
The cottage is not far from the lovely town of Drumnadrochit, a good three mile walk and the walkways (grass verges) are fine for walking but not great for a pushchair!
My Children (4 and 14 mths) loved visiting the Nessie Centre in 'The Drum' and there are lots of lovely places to eat out. The Loch Ness Inn in Lewiston serves fantastic food at a reasonable price!
The owner was extremely helpful with any issues/problems.
If I could change one thing about the property it's that the outdoor area could do with proper fencing. There is a bit of a drop down to a stream and the fence is either non-existent or has fallen down. For this reason we didn't spend much time in the quaint little back garden!
All in all a great stay!
Thanks for your kind review Kirsty. There is actually a very nice walk towards Drumnadrochit along a forestry track just on the other side of the river, accessed over a bridge by going a little way in the wrong direction. We'd be very happy to have you back again, when I'm sure we could show you how to find it. Thanks again, Adrian.
