The County Down region
Drumbo is made up of two Irish words. Drum meaning hill and bo meaning cow. A literal translation is hill of the cow and it is still this way to-day. There is an ancient round tower dating from viking times in the church yard in Drumbo.
Drumbo is a very small village 1.25 mile away, and there is not even a shop. The last shop and post office closed several years ago and now nearest shop is almost 5 mile away. There is a bus service into Belfast and Lisburn from Drumbo, but this is infrequent. A car is essential. However if going into Belfast city centre which is 8.5 mile away, it is recommended taking the bus in the morning from Drumbo as traffic congestion in Belfast is quite bad and car parking is expensive.
Drumbo area
The round tower is the only real attraction in Drumbo, but the beautiful countryside makes up for a lack of town amenties. Lisburn which is 5 miles away has a multi cinema, swimming pool and numerous eating establishments on a large site on edge of town. Both Lisburn and Belfast are excellant shopping towns. Places recommended within 1 hours drive are Belfast Zoo, Ulster Folk and Transport museum, drive by ferry from Strangford to Portaferry and return by road on other side of Pennisula .
Giant's Causeway and Antrim coast is about 2 hours drive and is an excellant day out especially if coasal route is taken.
How to get there
Drumbo is a very small village between Belfast and Lisburn cities. It is about 12 mile from the George Best City airport and 27 mile from Belfast International airport. Easiest directions are from M1 motorway. Exit at number 6 and follow sign for 'Saintfield'. After about 2.5 mile road for Saintfield turns 90 degrees left and there is a slip lane you enter when turning left here. Take this 90 degree left, and then take next road on left signposted 'Drumbo 2' at brow of a hill. This is Tullyard Road and number 60 is on right hand side just over 1 mile directly after the John Deere place (about 20 John Deere tractors are in the yard).

The bungalow is an 'L' shape with owner and family occupying one side, which has 3 bedrooms and a separate bathroom. (However owner can arrange to have all 5 rooms available - request details) The kitchen separates one side of the house from the other.
The part available for rent has 2 double bedrooms both en-suite, each with TV, fridge, tea/coffee facilities. One en-suite has a huge walk in shower and the other has a bath with shower above. The shared kitchen has American fridge freezer with cold water and ice maker, a cooker with 2 electric ovens and gas rings, and the kitchen has all other modern facilities including a drawer which pulls out and turns into an ironing board. The guest lounge has a double bed settee.
Further details outdoors: At the front of the bungalow there is a large garden laid out in lawns. At the back is a rough field ideal for those who have dogs. There is a large double garage with sink and electricity and pets can be kept here. It is a beautiful area for walking. There are no gates at road and for this reason it is unsuitable for young children unless closely supervised. (I have one child aged 3 who has to be supervised closely).
