The Calabria region
Calabria is the extreme southern branch of the Italian peninsula and this particular geographical region has certain characteristics. These aspects are a very limited continental, territorial borders in fact only a stretch of 80 km with the Basilicata, and a very extensive length of coastline: 738 km far. So it is one of the regions with the largest coastal development.
So it is one of the regions with the largest coastal development. And lasted between two seas: the Tyrrhenian Sea to the west and the Ionian Sea to the east, Calabria and subdivided into two sides, the Tyrrhenian and the Ionian. The Tyrrhenian coastline is characterized by a very uniform, despite the presence of two spacious gulfs of S. Eufemia and Gioia Tauro. The high and rocky coast, overlooking the sea, this development has also along the Straits of Messina, where the port of Villa San Giovanni and Reggio Calabria were achieved following major work to adapt artificial intelligence. The Ionian side is more sinuous, often flat and provides enough jagged coastline. The earliest historical inhabitants of the region are Bruzi, the name of the territory was for a long time that they have given, Bruzium. From the eighth century BC onwards there was the Greek colonization and the coastal cities Doric Kalchedian formed the nucleus known as the Magna Grecia, after which came the Romans.
Collapse of the Byzantine Empire divided the territory and Lombards, but in the tenth century occurred reunification with the prevalence of the Greeks. The region flourished under the Normans. He followed the rule of the Swabian, Angevin, Aragonese and finally the Bourbons. The presence of these various people from a particular culture Calabrese imprint not only folklore and customs, but also linguistic and artistic.
This small Calabrian town, the pearl Tyrrenean coast, is situaded about 60 meters above sea level, and can be reached, by crossing the Poro, after leaving the motorway at S. Onofrio from this road, you can also enjoy the amazing view over Tropea, or coming from the direction of Pizzo you can admire the beautiful coastline known as "The coast of the gods".
Tropea's enviable position also means that the old town of Serre situated in the beautiful mountains can be reached in just one and half hours. So you can admire the two most beautiful elements of sea and mountains. The climate is typically mediterranean which is mainly dry and sunny whith occasional rain.
