The Old Schoolhouse is a four bedroom property, three of which are ensuite, the games rooms has a slate bed pool table together with home cinema system, LCD TV and a Nintendo Wii. A substantial library of books DVDs and board games are available in the sunroom, while others may relax by the inset wood burning stove in lounge area.

Surrounded by woodland in a secluded location close to the River Shannon and numerous lakes. Quiet lanes to explore the beautiful countryside. Ideally located within an hours drive of the Atlantic and yet within 30 minutes of inland waterways of the Erne and Lough Allen

The Central Ireland region

Located in woodland 3 miles from Dowra village, the surrounding countryside varies from the outstanding natural beauty of the Cuilagh Mountains and the Glencar Falls to the Cavan Burren with the Neolithic burial chambers and sweat houses. The limestone caves of the Marble Arch contrast with the Shannon Pot ,the mystical source of the Shannon. The Marble Arch geopark embraces both Co. Fermanagh in N. Ireland and Co. Cavan and has a rich selection of lakeland and mountain landscapes.


Close to both the Kingfisher trail and the Cavan Way, the schoolhouse is within walking distance of the Shannon and a number of small loughs where the fishing is free. The surrounding woodland is home to the red squirrel, pine marten and numerous other native species. Sample the local honey from our own bee hive and enjoy the tranquil setting of our nature garden where the butterflies and bees pollinate the abundant wild meadow flowers. The local village of Dowra has 3 welcoming pubs and a great taxi service.

"Beautiful location & a good space"

The setting was beautiful and the property has lots of space, books, games & hot water! However, there was some unfinished work around, like lights, plugs & network points that were still being instal… More

Thank you for your honest review, and I would like to respond to some of the issues raised. I had intended to install a cat 6 computer network throughout the house but with the advent of the wifi technology I opted for the wireless network. To tidy up the loose ends I will fit blanking plates to all the redundant data and lighting points. In relation to the Nintendo Wii and home cinema system I will include an instruction sheet for the operation of both systems connecting to the LCD TV. Additionally I will provide written instructions for the heating system and describe the various controls relating to the solar panels. I appreciate your observations and hopefully the above actions will address some of the issues you have raised.

"Luxury Retreat with Friends!"

We found this fantastic gem when looking for somewhere for two families to get together and catch up. We wanted somewhere big enough to take 5 Adults, 3 kids and a baby. As it was February and we were experiencing wet, cold and stormy conditions we also wanted somewhere warm and cozy. The old schoolhouse certainly fit the bill. It is a newly renovated house designed to a very high Eco friendly standard set in a very tranquil location.The downstairs is all open plan with underfloor heating and little seating areas strategically placed for either reading, enjoying the comfort of a wood burning stove or simply long after dinner chats at the kitchen table. The kids and adults enjoyed the pool table in the separate games room putting in hours of fun with pool tournaments!! There was plenty of room in the well equipped kitchen to cook dinner, brekkie etc. The bedrooms were all very cozy and there was lashings of hot water for baths, showers etc. Michael was more than helpful from the time we booked which made for a very hassle free booking. I, wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property to anyone and we definitely plan to return again. We all returned home having had a very enjoyable, relaxing, hassle free break with a lot of ideas on how to be kinder to the environment!

"Great for a family or friends get together, spacious and comfortable - already booked next stay, top class!"

We went so we could have a murder mystery weekend to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday. Plenty of room for my daughter, son in law and their two children in the downstairs, ensuite room. My husband and myself had a double en suite room upstairs and my sister, her husband and their daugher shared a double room with a single bed and a bathroom attached. My son had a double room of his own but he would have been happy to sleep on a blow up bed if my brother in law and his wife had came. Despite the crowd their was plenty of space as the open plan kitchen/diner had sofas at one end with games, books and a computer desk. The sitting room has a tv and lots of seating and there is a pool room as well. A bit out of the way so no worries about disturbing the neighbours. Lough McNean Park is at the bottom of the road, great for picnics beside the water and a playpark for children and an outside exercise area for adults. We spend a day in Enniskillen round the little shops, though there is a shopping centre as well and loads of facilities. There are other places not too far away worth a visit - we are looking forward to Sligo in the summer for shops, beaches etc. You could simply spend all of your time in the schoolhouse though..... Fantastic place
