The East Anglia region
We'd love to welcome you to West Norfolk, a truly special place of unspoilt charm and natural beauty. Once discovered, you'll want to come back again and again.
Some of our personal favourite things to do and see....
We adore the glorious sandy beaches at Hunstanton. A Victorian seaside town with charm and character; renowned for its striped cliffs and magnificent sunsets. Have a go at kite surfing! Explore the coast and visit Wells, Heacham, Burnham Market, Cromer and Sheringham.
We enjoy a wander around our ancient market town of Downham Market, 4 miles away, known locally as 'The Gingerbread Town', also home to a clean, well-run swimming pool and leisure centre.
Enjoy a superb mix of shopping, history, cinema and entertainment in King's Lynn, a maritime town packed full of things to do and lots of lovely places to eat. We like the Bankhouse on the quay.
It's not everyday you see your local butcher in a London Bus on the river! Hilgay Raft Race, a hilarious fun-packed, fund-raising event on the river in our normally very sleepy little village! Every July.
Dinosaur Adventure, a favourite with our children! A truly 'monster' day out with brilliant indoor and outdoor activities. Too much for one day!
BeWilderwood, another favourite! A huge, award winning forest of family fun and outdoor adventure. Treehouses, zip wires, jungle bridges, Crocklebogs, Twiggles and Boggles, storytelling, boat trips, marsh walks and really yummy food! Our children loved building a den..http://www.bewilderwood.co.uk/
Stow Hall Gardens; a very local well-kept secret! Shh! Welcomes dogs on a lead. A true secret garden!
The Hare Arms, 5 miles away, simply good local food and beer in a beautiful setting, conveniently opposite Stow Hall Gardens http://theharearms.co.uk/
Wicken Fen National Nature Reserve, the National Trust's oldest nature reserve and England's most famous fen. http://www.wicken.org.uk
The Cathedral City of Ely, home to 'The Ship of The Fens', one of the most magnificent Cathedrals in England, we enjoy tea by the river or lunch in the Cloisters.http://visitely.eastcambs.gov.uk/
Fishing at Dent's in Hilgay, just across the road, 5 well-stocked fishing lakes. People come from miles away to fish here.http://www.sweetpotato.uk.com/fishing.htm
Ryston Park Golf Club, in the next village, welcomes visitors.
WWT Welney Wetland Centre, for year-round 'birding' also well-organised activities for all the family. http://www.wwt.org.uk/visit/welney/
Church Farm, Stow Bardolph, 5 miles away. A wonderful children's farm, with many rare breed animals and tractor rides, serving healthy local produce with large outside and indoor play areas. http://www.churchfarmstowbardolph.co.uk/
No-one ever forgets their first glimpse of Oxborough Hall! A magnificent 15th Century moated Manor House (National Trust). We are fortunate to be surrounded by many National Trust Properties locally.
The Royal Sandringham Estate. Beautiful house and gardens, but to honest we go there for the fantastic woodland children's play area and hearty home-cooked lunches!
Cycling and motorcyclists: The gently rolling countryside and quiet back roads are ideal to explore by bike, we have somewhere safe to store bicycles, let us know in advance so we can move the tractor!
Walking: The region is simply a haven for nature lovers and those enjoying the great outdoors. We provide maps and suggested walks in The Coach House.

"Lovely cottage in the beautiful Norfolk countryside"
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the coach house. A very warm welcome, with delicious scones and homemade jam. The cottage is decorated to a very high standard with all the comforts of a 5 star hotel. Beautiful garden and sunny patio, plenty of games for the young ones, the whole family came away feeling very relaxed. Soaking in the wood fired hot tub at the end of the day was a real treat!

I planned a surprise birthday getaway for my girlfriend with her friends. The place was everything we could have hoped it to be. It was a perfect escape from our regular surroundings. The owners are friendly and very helpful.

"Anna and Matt's hospitality, kindness, thought for detail and beautiful Coach House exceeded all our expections"
Going away for Christmas was new for us; with an age range of one to 70, we weren't sure what might be included……there was nothing we could have thought of, that wasn't wonderfully and generously provided: gorgeous decorations, delicious hamper, logs - brilliantly equipped kitchen - all the stuff for babies and toddlers, including stairgate. Brand new hot tub, underfloor heating - cupboards full of games and DVDs. Brilliant layout: so ample opportunity to be together in the gorgeous big open plan kitchen or sitting room - or to take time out in beautiful bedrooms to just chill. Stunning location, beautiful walks and beaches within easy reach, and the Wild Fowl Trust spectacular swan feeding ritual right on the doorstep! Really lovely large and delicious cafe just over the road, meant all our 'advanced cooking' endeavours were totally unnecessary! The icing on the cake for us, was that, inspire of it being Christmas Eve - Anna (a fantastic portrait photographer: see her website) agreed to do a session of all our family….it was easy, relaxed, stress-free - and the results were what I've longed for, for a great many years! We had the best holiday we could possibly have hoped for, and are already planning when we might be able to go back. No one could wish for more helpful and amiable hosts.
Thank you for your kind words. We are thrilled to hear you enjoyed your Christmas at The Coach House and that you also enjoyed seeing some of what this beautiful region has to offer. We very much look forward to welcoming you back soon! Many thanks again.

Our family of 10 had a weekend break at The Coach House last weekend and we were very impressed with the standard of the accommodation. On arrival we were made to feel very welcome by Anna (the owner) who immediately laid out Tea & Scones for us. On showing us around the house, the first thing we noticed was how impeccably clean everywhere was and the attention to detail that was apparent. Everything we needed, through the kitchen, to the lounge, and through the bedrooms was there. The lovely courtyard, where there is room to enjoy breakfast or lunch, is a real sun trap, and if the evenings are bit cooler then there is always the wood burner to add comfort to the lounge. We found a lovely village pub for Sunday lunch called The Chequers, about 5 miles away at Wimbotsham. The food was reasonably priced and there was a nice village pub atmosphere. All in all we had a super relaxing weekend made all the better with our choice of accommodation. Thank you Anna, I would have no hesitation in recommending The Coach House to anyone.
Thank you for your kind words,The courtyard is indeed a wonderful place to eat and relax, being south-facing and sheltered it is lovely all year round. The large gardens at the front of the property and the play paddock are favourites with our younger guests! We are glad you found the property to be spotless, we are very thorough! This is reflected in the 100% score for Cleanliness we receive each year in our Quality in Tourism assessment. It was a pleasure welcoming you to Lodge Farm and we look forward to seeing you again!

"A beautiful house offering luxurious accommodation in lovely grounds"
We were welcomed to this beautiful property by Anna with tea and scones, what a treat after a long journey! There was ample space both up and downstairs for our party of 9. All rooms had quality furniture and fixings and TV's and sound systems to suit all. The kitchen and dining facilities enabled us to all come together for our meals and was well equipped. There is a lovely big private courtyard, complete with hanging baskets and pots where we were able to barbecue and eat al fresco. There is ample space for all ages to play. We even took our own goalpost and played football as well as cricket and badminton. The location is also great. We visited Brancaster beach and Sandringham, all within a short drive. Some of the more adventurous of our party took cycles to Thetford Forest and also went to 'Go Ape' again not far to travel. We had a wonderful time, the only regret was it went too quickly. The 'Coach House' really did live up to our expectations and its 5 star/gold rating. Thank you Anna and Matt for allowing us to stay in your lovely holiday home.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. It was lovely to meet you all and we're glad The Coach House suited you so well. We look forward to welcoming you again.

"Amazing Holiday Home"
We visited The Coach House with friends for a four night Easter break. With 4 adults and 5 children ranging between 7 and 14 we were looking for a base to explore the Norfolk Coast and a location to relax in the evenings. We struck gold with The Coach House as from the moment we arrived we were treated to 5 star luxury and service that would be difficult to match in any hotel. Anna is a wonderful host, and after a crafty lunch time drive by where we were kindly allowed to drop off some luggage before check in,we travelled to Sandringham and arrived back mid afternoon to be greeted by a freshly made cream tea and Anna's assistant Mel having ironed one of our shirts ! The Coach House has been beautifully decorated throughout and the kitchen and dining area formed the basis for some lengthy evening meals. With 2 double rooms with en-suites upstairs and 2 twin rooms and a large family bathroom there was ample space for all. My son was perfectly happy in his downstairs bachelor pad and made much use of the 50 inch TV with a fantastic surround sound system. In addition to our cream tea welcome we were supplied with fresh eggs throughout our stay (both Duck and Chicken) kindly delivered by Anna's son Dominic and our towels and napkins were also collected midway through our stay. We were of course keen to explore the region and although The Coach House may be a little short of other more coastal lets we all agreed the short drive to the signature locations was more than compensated for by the luxurious surroundings. The Coach House is a perfect location for a Norfolk break and we would recommend it to everyone.
Thank you Mike for such a great review of The Coach House. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and all the little extras we like to offer. Thank you for letting us know a 4 slice toaster would be more convenient than the 2 slice one, we have purchased a new one and really appreciate the feedback. We look forward to seeing you again at The Coach House in the future and send our best wishes for Easter!

"Perfect large home, beautifully equipped and very comfortable"
A lovely week spent in the Coachhouse celebrating my husbands 50th. Anna was very welcoming and kind. The property was beautifully and practically furnished for a large party with 4 dogs. Wonderful
Thank you for your review. We're really pleased you enjoyed your week of celebrations. We would like to say we were happy to welcome the extra dogs as it was only for a brief part of the week. We deep-clean the property on a regular basis and are proud of our 100% score for cleanliness and Gold Award from VisitEngland.Thank you for taking such good care of The Coach House!

"Ely Pantomime Accommodation"
The Coach house in Hilgay is simply outstanding, after a long day in the theatre it was amazing to return to such luxury accommodation to relax and recharge for the next days shows. The facilities provided are fantastic and nothing is too much for the helpful owners. Would highly recommend the Coach House to any of my friends.
Glad you enjoyed a relaxing time at The Coach House and look forward to seeing you again. Thank you very much for your review!

"What a place!"
The Coach House was a wonderful place to stay. The house is absolutely beautiful and finished with some lovely personal touches (such as homemade cream tea on arrival!). The kitchen is well stocked and the lounge has its on log burning fire which was perfect for cold nights (all though the house was never cold due to the underfloor heating). The owners were very welcoming and live in a separate building on site - far enough away to have your own privacy but on hand if you need anything! Perfect for a large family get away or a break with friends.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review for us! It was a pleasure welcoming you to The Coach House and we hope to see you again.

"A home away from home..."
We were very fortunate to stay at the Coach House at Lodge Farm for the bank holiday weekend in August. It is quite possibly, the most beautiful holiday cottage that we have stayed in as a family. The cottage itself has been recently refurbished and the owners have made the place feel very luxurious, whilst retaining the charm and character of the original building. We spent meal times in the spacious kitchen which comfortably sat the whole family. The courtyard outside is also a really nice place to sit and eat. There is also a bedroom downstairs (and bathroom next to it), which was ideal for my grandparents (aged 90+). The young children in our family loved the big garden at the front of the house. My nephew and niece would rush to eat their breakfast in the mornings so that they could go out and play. We sat outside in the evenings, feeling relaxed and peaceful, watching the sun go down between the huge trees. The cottage is situated in a great location, making it easy to see some of the beauty that Norfolk has to offer. We really enjoyed visiting King's Lynn, the cathedral at Ely, Hunstanton beach and Thetford Forest. I express sincerest gratitude to Anna and Matt - we couldn't have asked them for anything more. Their friendliness and warmth is reflected in the Coach House, which immediately feels like a home.
Many thanks for your kind words. We are so glad you enjoyed your holiday in The Coach House and look forward to seeing you all again.
